Take the time to do some reading on the forums here, we are under a retrogression and have had one in place since October 31, 2006. Not sure if you are aware that there are no visas available for you to adjust to, and with the ADN, the only thing that is available is the green card and again, we do not have any available.

Going to school in the US no longer guarantees that one will be able to remain here and work.

Not sure if you realize that getting the two year degree here takes over three years to get with the pre-reqs that are required before one is even admitted to the nursing program. You do not get in directly for it in the ADN programs without the required courses being completed first.

Then in terms of getting a visa, there is a very long list ahead of you and that will mean that the retrogression is not going to be over for sometime. Please be aware that any other country for the most part is going to require the BSN for immigration purposes.

I would not plan on attending school in the US so that you can remain here, just is not going to happen. You also cannot work while on the student visa unless you get special permission to do so and it is not for more than 20 hours per week.

Take the time to do some reading about what is happening here, things are not as you think that they are going to be.

You will have to take the time to do some reading here, but be aware that I provide information, I do not enlighten as that is something that Buddha does, at least as far as I know. Sorry to be so picky on this but we only see it being used by those from your country and is not used here, you are lookingfor information.

There is nothing that I can tell you since I do not know you, you are going to have to make the decisions based on what you read here. Graduating that long ago and never having any experience is going to make it very hard for you to get hired here without having some type of refreher course and you cannot get that without a license here in the US.
Quite embarrassed!I understand...i tried to inquire but schools here does not offer refresher course, they advised me to take up Practical nursing(2 yrs)...i know it will be very hard for me to start again but i'm willing.....thanks!

Firstly which BON are you looking to apply for licensure to, they are the one to determine whether local boards are required. Next issue is going to take a few years to gain a GC and move to the US (that is if you are lucky) so what are you going to do to gain experience? Lastly why sit the exam in the US when it can be sat in your own country and if you haven't already got a tourist visa may find it hard to get one?

Re: Questions for Suzanne4

Miss Suzzanne ,

I am a nurse in the Philippines, I took my nursing local board exam on June 2006 which the cgfns requires us to retake. Unfortunately, I failed retake exam. CGFNS requires boardtaker to have a score not lower than 75% on both exams (test 3 and test 5). I did well on test 3 but failed test 5.

My license in the Philippines is June 2006. I took my NCLEX and passed the exam. I know that I could not be granted a CGFNS visa screen due to my license here. I've talked with several agency and they said that I need to surrender my license in the Philipiines and re-do the exam. If I will do that and passed the new exam they would issue me a new license which will be dated 2008.

My worry is will it off- set my experience for two years?
Another thing, I have a fiance in the United States, If she petitions me and granted a permanent residence status will I still need to retake my local here in the Philippines? or Will I not need the cgfns visa screen anymore?

All nurses.com helped a lot during my NCLEX , and also the future of my chosen profession. Hope you can guide me in helping my self. thanks

You are unable to take a refresher course in the US if you do not hold an active license number.

Retake the exam as you are required to do to work in the US. At this point in time, just because if you were petitioned by your fiancee, you still need to apply for work and they are going to ask to see if you have passed that exam. It has been a very well known fact about what happened with that exam.

Sorry, that you did not know about us before, but we have always stated back from when that was going on to take the entire test as one would have a better chance of passing.

If asking my opinion, get that exam passed before considering working in the US or it will be hard getting a job.

Was your experience in a paying job or in a training program? Even if you have two years there of paid work, you are still going to be considered a new grad here since training and working is so very different.

Those do not work as you cannot take care of a virtual patient and expect to have the proper skills.
In order for you to take any refresher course, they require an active license in the US, without having that done, then you do not qualify for the refresher programs.

But I would only recommend one where you are in a classroom with an instructor and you can get clinical time as well, as much as needed.

Get the exam done first, and then perhaps your future employer will have a plan in place.

Not sure about the job hunting if you do not have the visa already to work here, an employer cannot even legally offer one to you.
