Suzanne, where is better for me to apply for license, in VT or in NY?
I graduated last year from a nursing school in romania, I am in US now, I have a SSN, you told me that is faster for me to apply on VT, but I called them and they said that I must go through CGFNS becouse I didn't study in english. So, can you now please tell me what to do?
Sorry for posting twice, my connection was realy bad

I hope that you kept the originals, you never give them to the agency.
CA does their own credentials eval, they do not use those from CGFNS. They will need them from your school, and licensing agency directly to them.
And you will need to be fingerprinted for them to process anything.
Thank you so much for your reply.
I did not give any of my roiginal documents to any agancy, but do I have to send them to the board of nursing?
which nursing board do you suggest me to apply to? If I apply to NY, I have to apply for the CES for NY, and it takes more time and more money, isn't it? Please advise.

hi suzanne! im a filipina who recently graduated from BSN here in the philippines. Im still waiting for my local board exams, i believe it will be released sometime in july..but as early as now i would like to know what steps i should take in order for me to work in the US. My bro is a licensed PN in riverside california, i'd like to go there and work but i heard that the processing of papers in california takes a long, long time. I want to be able to work in US the soonest possible time but i do not know what is the best step for me to take. I even dont know if i should take CGFNS or just NCLEX. I am willing to work anywhere in the US if that means that application to work there has the least hassles and least time consuming. What can you advice me?? Im really new to this thing and really need guidance from someone who is an expert on these things. Could you help me out please?? thanks and God bless

You have me totally confused, you said that you are using an agency. These are things that they are getting paid to handle for you.
NY uses the CVS. You brought up NY, I only states stay away from initiial licensure in CA, or you will be waiting extra months and months and months.
It is your choice what to do, I would never, ever recommend that route of CA for you or anyone else that graduated from a foreign nursing school, and especially who does not have a SSN#.
You need to decide which will work best for you. Extra months or extra money. If you go CA route, you will not have a CA license until you are in the US and give them a SSN#.

CA is definitely the longest in terms of processing. If you pass your local boards, then you can go the route of Vermont, but since you have taken the exam, you will need to wait for your result first. Or get a CES and apply somewhere else and endorse.
You do not need the CGFNS exam.

Where do you wish to work? Base it on that. Especially if you have a SSN#.

Hi Suzanne,
Thank you for replying to my previous post. I asked about my wife (trained in Shanghai, China) applying to NY or NJ. You had recommended NJ. If she uses the CVS for NY licensure, is the CES still required for endorsement to NJ?
Apparently, my wife and her father have previously tried to get records from her nursing school for other issues. She graduated from a program that no longer exists. This adds to the already large bureaucratic hassle. The school is still there, though. She fears that we will have little luck in getting info sent to CGFNS' CES on our own. On the phone, some administrative person apparently said they wouldn't fill out any portion of the Request for Academic Records if it's in English. I'm not sure that CGFNS' CVS will have any better luck. However, with more experience they may have more insight into the proper channels. This doesn't matter, of course, if NJ requires the CES for endorsement. Then, the CVS wouldn't be helpful. Thank you for any clarification you can provide.

Hi Dear Suzanne
Thanks for your reply. my problem is lack of information ,that's why sice I started the path to get to U.S, I did a lot of mistakes, went wrong ways, paid unneseccary, lost time.........I'm more conservative now and become obsecive. That's why I really need your help.
My agancy does not pay or remberse the fee for exams...... that's why I concern about the money, till now I've paid more than $8000 (for exams, 2 time travelling to another country for the CGFNS, 3 time TSE............and more) and I don't mind for a few more hundred, but also look for a easier way if possible.
My question is that since my I-140 has been approved a few days ago, I don't know how long do I have time for doing thing, is that better to sit for the NCLEX before going to U.S or after ? My agancy ( and job offer ) are in CA, that's why they told my to apply for CA BON, and I mentioned NY just because I read it in one of your thread( Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US ) I perfer to sit for the NCLEX after 5-6 months (I need it for preperation) and if CA BON may take 4-5 months, it seems to be ok for me, but I'm afraid if it takes more time.
I also don't know shall I apply for the NCLEX now or I have to choose a BON first? which BON? Since I'mout of U.S, and I don't have any SS#, if I do it with a BON which has less requirments and do it faster, without SS# what will happen to me when I want to endorse it to another state?
please advise me what should I do. I'm totally confused.
Many thanks for your time and attention.

The CVS is only good for NY, and is not the same as the CES. If she is having issues getting the documents, or thinks that she will, have a family member try to obtain them and have the school just put them is a sealed envelope. Get two copies like that. Keep one sealed for the CES and send it on to CGFNS, and have the other translated by certified translator and then have that sent on to CGFNS. Just have someone go and ask for them in person and wait there until they are given to them.
