thank you

I understand from this forum that you will be able to get an ssn when you have a legitimate employment in the US.

NM BON issues a license even if you don't have an SSN.

About compact state license, you can have more info about it thru a link found in the home page of ncsbn.org There are conditions before the compact state license rules can be applied.

Can you renew your license even without ss#? what will you happen if you can't renew, do you take another NCLEX exam? Thanks for the answers
I read somewhere that renewal of NM license is done once every two years. SSN is required for the renewal. Failure to renew does not necessarily mean that you will re-take NCLEX. I think the license, if not renewed, will become inactive and cannot be used.

Before allowing a renewal, the BON may require that a refresher program be completed by nurses who have been away from nursing practice for some time. Sometimes, a new background check and fingerprint check can be required by the BON. These entail expenses and payment of fees.

You can also get info on renewal of license from reading renewal forms or the BON's website or straight from the BON itself.

i hope this helps.

Re: New Mexico Licensure Question

Also, I'd like to add that I have read that "inactive" or "expired" licenses may not be endorasable to another state. Like in California, they need a valid and active license from the state that originally issued you your license to be able to apply for licensure by endorsement.

Re: New Mexico Licensure Question

here's an interesting info on failure to renew license for 8 years (note: this is for California): (source: the CA BRN licensing FAQ webpage:
http://www.rn.ca.gov/lic/lic-faqs.htm#2 )

"22. Eight years have elapsed since the expiration date of my California RN license. What steps should I follow to renew my license? If eight years have passed following the expiration date of a license and you have not been working as a registered nurse in another state, a licensee is required to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). The NCLEX-RN is required to determine current clinical knowledge and fitness to resume the practice of professional nursing. For information on retaking the NCLEX-RN examination, please visit the Board’s Web site at
www.rn.ca.gov/lic/pdf/8yr_retakeapp.pdf.

If eight years has passed following the expiration date of a license and you have been working in another state; you do not have to re-take the NCLEX-RN. For information on how to renew your
license, please visit the board’s Web site at www.rn.ca.gov/ren/reinstate8year.htm. "

Re: New Mexico Licensure Question

Hi guys! I’m new here and I hope you can help me with my NM application. I have to first ask my school to send my TOR and RLE to the BON of NM, right? Do I have to send the Payment form for the evaluation of TOR, $50, at about the same time as the school sends it (via separate couriers)? Will the BON evaluate the TOR even without receiving the $50 payment? I was told I have to wait for the BON to evaluate my credentials and to give their go signal, before I could proceed with sending them my application forms and fingerprint cards. Thank you.

kiko, thanks a lot for the reply! I attended a seminar today. The speaker said that there are a lot of nursing jobs available in new mexico. After 2 years of working in NM, the salary can go up as much as $40-45. thanks again.
