I think seizures would probably be a big one. I do not think legally you can refuse to employ someone based on a medical condition except maybe in certain situations.

They are not doing rectal exams when you go for your medical. They are concerned with infections that can be passed on, or diseases that can be passed on.....such as AIDs.

Tb is not even excluded as long as it has been treated, diabetes is not contagious..........hemorrhoids are strictly engorged blood vessels in the rectal area.

They are mainly looking for people with HIV/AIDS - - that would get you failing a medical.....I know a couple of people with HTN that have sailed through the medical......

As for TB your NEw Employer would give you a PPD test before allowing you to work in a hospital....

You mean, one might get through the medical but wont be able to find employment in the U.S. if positive for PPD? People exposed or have been treated for TB will forever be PPD positive.
Anyway, what's the best diagnostic exam to confirm reactivation of TB? Chest xrays are always not that reliable, think so. And so are sputum cultures if sputum collection was incorrect.

Your Employer could possibly give you a hard time over PPS - I have seen 2 British nurses who had their BCG have hard time over positive PPD test - in the end neither of them had to have treatment (becuase they finally listened to them that they had had their BCG) and were able to work...... they were told they could still work but would need treatment......

My first job they had my chest xray read from my embassy and the second job I had a negative PPD (I ever had the BCG in school)

As long as the TB as been treated, then it is not considered active. There are thousands of health care workers that test positive for TB with the Mantoux Skin Test............

US Government requires the CXR for all that wish to come to the US........it is up to your employer if they wish to require the PPD once you get here, and then where you will be working in the US and with what type of population also is taken into consideration. There are some facilities that have quite a bit of TB, and if so, the infectious disease doctors there will require that you have treatment if you test positive, even if you had BCG as a child. Their opinion is that after 15 years or so, you would only be positive if you were in contact with people in the past that were positive and developed an antibody to it, but were unaware of it. Examples of this are VA hospitals, as well as many county facilities.............but they usually do not do any petitioning for nurses from out of the country.
