hi everyone. I just want to ask about my dilema. im from the philippines and i just graduated this year. me and my girlfriend are planning to get married but they say that its hard to get an employer in US if my status is married. how true is this? we both have tourist visa but i know i need to have a working visa to be able to stay in US. pls help

Civil status has no bearing on visas for the US. But please be very aware that your tourist visa will not help you in any way as there are no other visas for you to endorse to once you are here. There is no way for you to legally remain in the US once the time is up on your visa.

Attempting to work illegally will get you deported and not permitted to return to the US for a minimum of ten years.

We actually do not have working visas for nurses here in the US. Please take the time to do some reading on this forum as you are looking at about a five year wait plus for a chance at a green card, and I mean chance.

Whether you are married or not has no bearing on job offers or anything else here. Please do not come to the US with the idea of remaining here.
Not sure if that is what you were asking, but there is not one thing that you can do at all, and there is much that needs to be done before you can even have an employer start the immigration process for you.

Have you actually written the NLE? With a five year wait for a chance at a visa, you are going to need to get experience. Your country requires the local license as well as most other foreign countries.

There are NO working visas for nurses, the only thing is the green card that is available for you.

thanks suzanne for enlightening me. What exams should i need to take if im planning to work in california? how long will it take to process the papers? If im married and got a green card does my wife also get one?

Take the time to do some reading here, it does not even matter how long that it takes to get the exams done, but the fact that the US is under a retrogression and you are looking at about five years plus for a chance at a green card, and that is the only thing that is available for you.

I also would not go for licensure in CA at this time, and you can do some reading here as to why not.

They do not issue a license without a SSN#, and you do not get one of those until you have gone thru the immigration process and are ready to begin work here in the US. And your file gets destroyed in three years and with a five year plus wait, you will be starting all over again thru another state. Why throw out all of that money when you do not become a licensed US RN either?

And if you are married when you submit the DS-230, then yes, the spouse would get a green card as well.

Suggest that you read the Primer at the top of this forum for information that you truly need to have before you do a thing.

It is illegal here for employers to even ask your marital status ...

Employers here in the US could care less what someone's marital status is, or the number of kids, or anything else like that. They are more interested that the person will show up for work each day that they arre scheduled as well as their skill level being where it should be when they start working here.

Also noticed you asking what exams are needed to be able to work in CA.

To be able to work in CA, you need to be licensed there and have gone through the proper immigration process to be able to work legally aside from gaining licensure to work in CA as an RN.

Have you at least taken the NLE already because that is actually needed already by CA BRN to grant you eligibility to even take the NCLEX-RN exam.

Having a tourist visa is also supposed to be not a factor as well and to be honest should not be discussed publicly or even be implied that someone plans to use that route as well. Many consider it cutting in line. Adjustment of status from tourist is also not allowed as of this time and no one one knows when it will be allowed again. There are even discussions now that concurrently filling of I-140 and I-485 should not be allowed anymore and if that passes, AOS from tourist visa will be harder as this will mean having to wait for the I-140 to be approved first before someone can file for AOS and by the time approval comes someone on just a tourist visa will probably be having their legal 6 mos stay expired already.
