Need Information - Canadian RPN/LPN's, where can we work?

Hello everyone,

I will be graduating the registered practical nursing program in Ontario in December and I was wondering if anyone could answer this question for me. Where outside Canada can a RPN/LPN work? Am I only able to nurse in Canada? If this is so, I will be bridging BScN without a doubt.

Thank you for your help

Unfortunately, that license is not accepted for immigration purposes in most countries, includingn the US.

Not all countries have the LPN role, and the ones that do usually do not have a shortage, so immigration becomes an issue.

In order to get a TN non immigrant visa which is relatively easy to get if you are a Canadian citizen, you have to be an RN. Not a BSN RN but a RN. But in Ontario they don't have the diploma program any longer but you may be able to get it in Manitoba I have heard. Or come to the US on a student visa and get your RN but there are really long waiting lists for RN programs in the US and the tuition is pretty high for an international student. I still think you are better off getting your BSN anyway. There are more opportunities for BSN grads and that way if you ever go back to Canada you would have that option as well.
