Just because you did not physically receive a license does not mean you do not have one as interpreted by US boards.
ANYTIME a person takes a nursing licensing exam, boards in the the US need to know offical results of exam in order to process licensure request here.

From the PRC, they actually need to have registration with them for things to be accepted here in the US.

You do not need local license for California BON.
Actually it is now a requirement or why one has not taken it. Not wishing to work in the Philippines is no longer an accepted answer for them.

In the past, they accepted a letter that you were not planning to work in your country, but now with the retrogression and no visas being available for years, then one would like to have work experience before going to another country. And one is going to find it difficult to get hired if they have never worked as an RN and are going to need to get petitioned thru an employer.

You are in a different case as your fiancee is being petitioned by you and does not have to wait five years for a chance at a green card.

Also, I have applied to CA-BRN and they keep asking for a Philippine license. I faxed 2 explanations but to no avail. My application has a filing date of Dec 2007. Will my existing application with CA-BRN affect my future applications with other state?

Please help me. i waited for 6 months just to know that CA_BRN will not let issue me ATT because I have no local license.

I would really appreciate advice from anybody. I'm late for June 2008. I am pregnant and due in December so that is out for me also. I just wanna be licensed in the uS.

Many thanks to all!

You are applying for licensure as an RN, there is no way to apply for the NCLEX exam. And you will need to check out the website for the state that you are interested in. I am not aware of them not using the CES, which is only a credentials eval and not an exam.

I would take the time to get licensed in your country, you are looking at five years plus for a chance at a green card, and without a local license, then you are not able to work in your country or any other.

Your application with any other state will not affect a new one, but again, we are expecting that the US government is going to start to require the local license as they did in the past when the CGFNS exam was a requirement by all states, and now even require two years of experience because of the sudden increase in the number of students in your country and the number of visas for the US not being increased.

I would focus on writing the NLE when you can.

And to redranger, here is proof of what we have been stating. CA is no longer waiving the requirements if one is able to write the local exam there.
And you can see this by what this poster has written.

A verbal anything over the phone is not a binding contract.

Re: Is It True Ca Now Requiring Local License?

Hi kanebo...i was reading some of your post here and just wanna ask about what happen to your CES application?did it get approve?.i didnt take my nle also and i am having a problem with my CA application...i sent my application last december together with my reason and now they are telling me to send a copy of my local license. I called them up and they said that i need to send again and that they are really strict now and they need a valid reason..my reason was that i came here in the U.S before my graduation and the local board exam. cause i really need to b/c my K4 visa(minor dependent visa) will expire and if im not gonna enter US before my visa expires, i may not be able to enter US for many years.what im planning now is to send them again my letter or start applying for CES..and by the way, does your friend applying for CA also?..did she recieve that letter?or she is still applying for one?..hope to hear from you.. SALAMAT!...^_^

Hi! My friend just fedexed his documents last Monday to CA BON and included a letter stating that he has no intention to practice nursing in the Philippines that is why he did not take the local board. Not sure though if this will still work but he gave it a try. So, did you send them a new letter? How many months passed before you even heard or received a letter from them?

I just arrived in the US, I called up CA BON last week and asked them if they require local license...the lady on the other end told me that if you don't have one then just write them an explanation letter. So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

With regards my CES, am done with it even without a local license. You just have to send them an explanation letter why you don't have a local license.

Re: Is It True Ca Now Requiring Local License?

CA does not even use the CES.
And the issue is that CA has changed their policy since January of this year. And not wishing to work in PI is no longer a valid reason anymore, especially since there is a retrogression in place that affects most that are applying for the license in CA.

With a five year wait, one needs to get experience someplace.

And CA has the right to require the NLE be written, it is not up to anyone else. Also be aware that the person that answers the phone is not the one that approves anything.

Well im thinking to start my CES already b/c i am thinking of applying in another states who requires CES. i am just thinking ahead of time because with the CA getting strict now. My reason is not because i dont have any intention to work in the philippines but because i dont have no option but to move here in the U.S with my mom before my board exams. this is because my K4 visa(minor derivative visa from my mothers k3 visa or spouse visa) to begin the change of status process.my visa expired 2 days after my graduation ceremony in march 2006 and we moved here march 14 2006. If CA wouldnt accept this reason then i might as well apply in another state. I am a permanent resident here in us already and i live in hawaii. i talked to BON here yesterday and ask them if they require local license and they said it is not necessary but you need to have a CES or cgfns certificate. take note guys!...it is ces OR cgfns. so its either one.i doubled check that to them.just wanna tell everybody this. cause theres a lot of BSN foreign grad here in HI who apply in CA bc they dont have license in PI. cause what they know is that they require one...hope this would help..
