Sorry you failed the nclex but i like your determination.
I am also a UK nurse/midwife for the past eight years and desperate to live the UK for the US, i took the nclex last August with the California board of nursing and passed, but the won't give me my license, until i give them my social security number, and for me to have that, i need a job, for me to have a job, i need a green card
i really thought i would have been out of here by now according to the information i had from the agency, to my dismay i heard about the retrogression, meaning it will take over 2-3yrs before i might get a green card. I am so disappointed that i don't know what to do, i so badly want to go. I have not started anything as yet, as i have to sign a contract with one of the agency i have decided to go with, but the contract is such that when the start the process and i decide to pull out for any reason, they can sue me for up to $20,000,which i am very scared of, what if the green card takes 3yrs to come through, should i put my life on hold for them?

It is such that i have started the process of going to Canada instead, which i hear is a lovely Country and a nice place to bring children up, i am waiting to hear from them.

It is scary what agencies are doing some even go a lot higher on the cancellation fee. If you continue the US route suggest towards the end of your 3 years you think about another state and moving your results across. Much has already been written about Ca and SSN if you do a search I know I posted a thread Suzanne wrote only the other day on what to do if with Ca for initial licensure

I started down the USA route - passed N-CLEX, have VisaScreen & got a job off my own back - no agencies (thanks to advice from this site). However, with the retrogression etc I too have gone down the Canada road instead.

I have a job organised (again no agency involvement) and tomorrow I will be going to the Embassy to drop all my work permit paperwork in (just waiting for our bank to sort out the cheque.)

Congratulations to you, ooh am so jealous, i wish i was taking my papers to the embassay. I am still waiting to hear whether they will register me or not, you see i am a registered nurse/midwife but have been working as a midwife for the last 4yrs but also doing some nursing shifts to maintain my nurse registration, CRNBC now wants me to seperate my nursing hours from my midwifery shifts, so as to determine how many nursing hours i have worked over the last 5yrs, in determining whether i have worked the required 1125 over the last 5yrs, one of their required criteria.

I have written a letter explaining to them that even though i work as a midwife, we do rotation on our unit and at present am on the antenatal ward which involves a lot of nursing care, no reply as yet. Do you think they will register me? Did you have any problems? I have also interviewed with a hospital, obstetric nursing and they are just waiting on my references, they are aware i am in the process of registration.

Sounds about right! Payrol should be able to help & you can probably add the antenatal hours to that as well. Remember to take out any vacation hours - it's a pain!! Just ask SD - she's in the process of working out hours too so I'm sure you'll get some sympathy there!

As long as your nurse training has the requisite hours for your Province (you have to get your school to send transcripts direct) & you sort out this problem you have with proving hours I think you'll be fine.

Yes in the process of working my hours out for NS and just emailed my old job for some dates etc as I dropped down to 30 hours but can't remember when
