mentors for managers

i am writing an article about nurses as mentors to one another. I am specifically wondering if there are managers who had special mentors who helped them achieve their goals. how did the mentoring come about and how did it help?

any stories to share would be most appreciated.

I had a wonderful nurse manager mentor. He, yes he, learned my strengths and asked me what I wanted to learn. I made a list. LIttle by little over a years time I got to learn everything on the list. That list was incorporated at evaluation time for accomplishments and challenges to come. He was very diplomatic but firm when he needed to be. Staff all loved him. He was an excellent leader. LOL. I married him two years later. He is still a wonderful leader. I have not seen one like him since.
