Staff have to realize that just because they are employeed they are not priviledged to know everyones business either. Not sure how it is in your hospital, but, one that small as ours, it is VERY easy for word to spread. Listening to the scanner at home and in the ER will bring them in everytime.
I agree, this must be educated on a MUCH larger scale than just HIPAA. Terminations should be inolved when breech of confidentiality is in play.
And, it is HIPAA, not HIPPA.
