I am getting ready to start a travel assignment in a Neuro/Trauma ICU in Memphis. I worked a neuro floor for 6 years, and have been in ICU for the last 2 years. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as preparing myself for the trauma aspect of it. I have worked in the ER some during the past 2 years, however, I can count on one hand the number of traumas I was involved in, and I can count on one finger the number of Neuro/Traumas. Any help or advice is desperatley awaited.

I worked on a general ICU which handled Neuro trauma or otherwise, I'd say brush up on your Glasgow Coma Scale and look up Extraventricular drains and ICP monitoring (intracranial pressure),its very interesting and you may get to see burr holes being made on the unit in an emergency, its great experience, hope you enjoy it

neuro traumas-spinal cord injuries, lots of ccollars, MVAs, traumatic SAH...lots and lots of MVAs...so know a little ortho..im always lost with broken bones when i get a trauma pt....chest tubes...
