Neuro asessment is a head to toe. Usually done by an MD. Neuro checks are done by LPNs, RNs Aides. Check bilateral hand and foot strength. Pupil dilation using a flashlight. I will have patients smile and stick out their tounge to see if one side is different. I hope this is a help to you.
When I worked in a neuro ICU, we did a complete neuro assessment, head to toe..........difference is a neuro assessment is a complete assessment, while a neuro check is doing just the basics.
A neuro assessment is not limited to a physician but depends on what type of unit that you are working on.
