Question Cardiac Critical Care or Neuro Critical Care?

Hi everyone, I am graduating this Friday May 6th yeah! :hatparty: I have two job offers, one in Neuro and one in Cardiac. I want to learn as much as I can about all the different human body systems, and have as many clinical skills as possible. I eventually want to do travel nursing. My question is which unit do you reccomend to fill these desires. Also considering I am a new grad which unit would you recommend and why? Pros and Cons of both units?

Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Much!

I was hired as a new grad into our Neuro Critical Care Unit. We take general neuro stuff (unsecured/secured aneurysms, craniotomies, brain tumors, intracerebral bleeds, embolic CVAs, brain mapping, intractable seizures, etc) and the occasional neuro trauma (CHI, SCI, etc). We also get some overflow from other units (mostly SICU and MICU). I've learned alot in the last 18 months. Neuro effects cardiac (and vice versa) but differently than you would find in a CCU (we very, very rarely have any AMIs). Each unit has its own "specialized" equipment to learn.

To recommend one unit type over another is difficult. Where do you think you'd feel most comfortable? Which do you have a greater interest in? Many will say you need to start on a med/surg floor (to get a foundation and learn organization). I, personally, think you ought to start where you have the desire to start - be it floor or ICU (regardless of speciality).

Good luck.
