Forgive me if this has been addressed, but what exactly do nurse managers do? (no, this is not sarcasm....)

I'm planning on going to nursing school and thinking about career options down the road a ways and I thought that management might be a good one. I'm interested primarily in Critical Care, so info specific or unique to ICUs would be appreciated.
