Wink RN & MBA Anyone out there or anyone have an opinion??

Hi everyone! I am contemplating doing an MBA in public management. I am wondering if there is anyone out there that has done so before or has an opinion on it. I would like to know what kind of opportunities exist for nurses holding an MBA (Masters in Business Admin)... As far as I know: health care consulting, project management,...

Any responses would be really appreciated!

I think it's a good idea! More education never hurts anyone :-) I say go for it.

Re: RN & MBA Anyone out there or anyone have an opinion??

Hi PursONality,

I like the name....Anyways, I'm an RN that is attending an MBA cirriculum with a health care specialization.

I think it will open doors for you. Most of the nurse managers that I have worked under and liked working under were MBAs - I think one may have had her MSN also. I can only say what my experience is so far and that is the education I have obtained thus far has helped me to understand / integrate the nursing skills and thinking along with the business concepts and why managers do the things they do. Or CEOs, CFOs, and CNOs for that matter. Of course some of them make decisions that the "status quo" may never understand....Well, that is a different subject.... It is hard to think as a "nurse" then as a "business person". It can be done and I think it helps one to understand both sides of "issues" that occur in health care. Especially, balancing mission with margin.

Any door is open to you that you want. Any avenue can be pursued.
The only restrictions are what you may impose upon yourself.

Best of luck to you. Go for it.
