qualifications for chief nursing officer

Does anyone know if the federal gov or JCAHO has established educational or experience requirements for directors of nursing or chief nursing officers? Does the title make a difference? Does the type of facility make a difference? Thanks for any help.

Re: qualifications for chief nursing officer

NR.1.10 A nurse execuative directs the hospital's nursing services

NR.2.10 he nurse execuative is a licensed professional registered nurse qualified by advanced education and management experience.

NR.3.10 The nurse execuative establishes nursing policies and procedures, nursing standards of patient care, treatment, and services, standards of nursing practice; and a nurse staffing plan(s).

Title does not make a difference.

If the hospital is Magnet status or working to become Magnet, then there are specific education requirements. For the CNO they must have a BSN and a Master's degree (though the Master's does not have to be in Nursing)
