I have interviewed for a management position with a hospitals DON/CNO and Director of HR and the probability of getting called for a second interview appears to be in the near future. I am definitely taking everyone's view points into consideration and trying to implement a plan from feedback on a previous thread.

If I am called in for a second interview, I believe I was informed that I will be interviewing with the CNO, CEO, and perhaps a physician / Medical Director or maybe multiple physicians - I don't know.....

Those of you that have gone before me, interviewing for a management position infront of administration et al care to mentor me a bit as what to expect? This will be an entry level management position over a 6-7 bed ER and a small 6 bed ICU in a rural hospital.

Don't be intimidated! It is equally (if not more) important that you interview them! These are the people you will be working with to determine standards of clinical care, set policy and procedure, make personnel decisions, negotiate budgets, design education programs for the staff and community, etc. It is crucial that you have a good understanding of what your working relationships will be, whether your personalities are a good fit, whether you agree with the priorities, philosophies, and working styles of these people.

In my opinion, most nurse managers lack business management skills. I strongly encourage anyone entering a leadership position to insist on hospital-paid formal business training for matters such as budgeting, and handling personnel issues.

Thank-you for responding. I really do appreciate it. I have been a staff RN with some charge nurse roles in the ER,Tele and Case Mgt. 12 years of experience total. - Maybe 13 - but whos counting I have the financial stuff under my belt academically speaking (attending an MBA program specializing in health care). I'll be done this June

I have wanted to be in the managerial role for some time - but foregone the opportunities because I did not have the business acumen. Now, I'm heavily looking and pursuing it.....It is just a bit nerve racking - first entry level mgt position.

I definitely want to do a good job and hope that my thoughts are in alignment with theirs.
