help with the qa process

Does anyone have any good websites or books or anything that can help me learn the qa process, how it should work, how to go about it, team meetings, etc. There are so many issues in ltc, how do you get started? What do you do? What is your process? Any info would be greatly appreciated. thank you,

These resources might help:

An Introduction to Quality Assurance in Health Care by Avedis Donabedian
[i]Measuring Quality Improvement in Healthcare A Guide to Statistical Process Control Applications[i] by Raymond G. Carey, PhD & Rober C. Lloyd, PhD.

www.ncqa.org
www.ahrq.gov

Also, do a search for quality assurance in health care. There may be some helpful sites there.

Hope this helps you out a little bit.

Linda

Thanks, Linda. I am doing hospital QA for the first time, and have been looking for some references, myself.

The site for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement www.ihi.org has alot of information about hospital quality including ideas, tools for measuring quality, and educational offerings. My QA position was recently eliminated, so I've moved on to other things. I really enjoyed QA. I gained many skills and much knowledge that I can use in other areas. Best of luck with your new position (both of you).

Managing Quality

By J.M. Katz and E.Green - Mosby

This is a great reference book that will tell you how to develop and maintain a good program. Two nurses, who really understand what needed to be done, wrote it. I have the second edition that was printed in 1997. They may have a new edition out.

Thanks for the links and the info... went to a Quantros Conf. last week in St. Louis... learned alot and it piqued a real interest in this area for me. Now just looking at basic info trying to learn more about it.. to see if its something I'd want to give up bedside nursing for... something to think about... good luck to all.
