Re: Hedis 2005...

I have done HEDIS for the past 3 years and it is a great temporary project to work on. If you are interested in finding HEDIS positions I would look online for companies that specialize in this type of work, a lot of health plans outsource these projects to nursing agencies. I am excited for HEDIS 2006 to start it will be my third year with the same company. If I can help anyone with some info about HEDIS you can email me.

Re: Hedis 2005...

Actually this is an iquiry for HEIDS 2006 (Texas). How does the pay usually work when it is based on a per chart rate with a bonus for finishing on time? I did a project last year but it was hourly with mileage. I'm just trying to get a basis for some comparison--Thanks for any inpout!

Re: Hedis 2005...

Hi jo5555,
I'm out here in west TX and there aren't any HEDIS jobs out here. When I worked in So. CA, we got a bonus of $100 for every week we checked more than 240 charts. Of course you had to finish the whole assignment and be available to help others who hadn't finished but, that was just more money for you too. The insurance co. I did them for paid $30 per hour for everything we did, calling to make appts, travel (plus we got 35c per mile driving), filling out paperwork, everything. The companies I heard of in East TX paid only $20 per hour and didn't pay for the 1st 40 miles or 40min of work. BUMMER!!
Still, I wish there were HEDIS jobs out here in west TX....I miss doing them. All I'm doing now are office compliance checks for a company out of Michigan for dr. offices here in west TX. Not as much fun and not as interesting but, it's something to do.

Re: Hedis 2005...

Thanks arby-When I worked hourly it was at 28/hr plus mileage and one co also paid travel time after the first 30 min. Since I live in the Houston area travel time can be a big issue.
Thanks for the info though-at least it gives me aa idea of what to expect

Re: Hedis 2005...

Last year I left clinical work (various reasons, health, burnout etc.) and had taken a coding class in hopes that I might be able to get into some sort area that could also use my clinical skills. i just happened to see an ad in the paper (I live in Tx) for nurses to do medical record reviews. It wasn't for HEDIS but preferred that they have coding skills. This company was in another state (Fla) so I applied and have since that time worked for them off and on in my area doing record reviews and since I was established with them they were willing to train me for HEDIS. I have also worked on a HEDIS project with a local staffing company. This is not full time work that you can count on, only when the projects are there unless an insurance company wants to hire someone as a fulltime employee but that has not been my experience. Looking online for companies that do medical record site reviews or HEDIS would be a way to get started-contact them and see if they are willing to train. Hope this helps.

Re: Hedis 2005...

I have made it through the first phase of the interview and really think that I am qualified for this. Although I have never done this particular job, I did MDS/Care Plainning in LTC, have worked in hh for the last five years. In addition, I do periodic chart review for an attorney. I'm used to being on the road (in hh) and can plan my day out pretty well. I have been told that the pay is hourly with mileage. Is that normally from the time and odometer that I leave my house? Is most of the work done actually in the doc offices or at home? Is is usually a 40 plus hour a week job? I have my own company that I use to be paid when I do work for the attorney, have you all ever heard of the company being paid as opposed to the individual (it's a benefit for them with w/c and not having to kick in the 7.5% ss since I have to deal with that.) Anything else I should know or any tips on important questions to ask at my next interview?

Thanks,
Ann

There are a lot of small companies doing HEDIS. The biggest is Outcomes and that's the only one I have worked for. Prior experience is not required if you are a licensed nurse. Their training was enough to get me going without a problem and I could always call their help line if I had questions. Smooth sailing...
