Wow!This one has got to be one of the worst I have read on here. At least I know I don't want to work in that dept. I have a thing about eyes. I can't stand to see eye surgery or watch people take their contacts out. It creeps me out. I am getting better about the contact thing considering I had to wear them. I can't do poo. Poor penis!

I work in bone marrow transplant, but we had a bed and it was winter (Boston). An elderly lady was admitted with the chief complaint of "I need new glasses." Only at our hospital... She lived in a walk up- no shower, just a toilet and probably hadn't seen a bath in years. Her legs were black, with filth and lint covering her feet. It took us days to soak the dead black crusts of her feet and lower legs. I threw her clothes away- we took surgical brushes and liquid soap and warm wet towels and just soaked it off. Icky pieces of skin everywhere...
Then there's the guy with head and neck ca with a PEG and trach. Mentally ill too- great surgical candidate. He's hovering over me, peeing on the floor when his PEG opens and theres a stew of old PEG feeds mixed with urine splashing onto my shoes. All I could do to keep from gagging. There are days ya gotta love it....

OMG! How horrible. I would think cutting your penis off would hurt quite a bit. I mean, if he wanted to become a she, why not just have it sugically done? Why go through all the trouble? Then again, it IS the pysch ward. And that lady. Wow! All I could say is Wow. I hope she is okay. And poo would not be a pretty sight, I bet. Thankfully, in my training, I have not come across any of those people yet.

Ive seen a large number of penis's whacked off, by others and by them selves, which is worse.

OH MY GOD!!!! I have worked in nearly every department and seen my share of gross things, but that takes the cake. Thats a facial from hell!

I worked L&D in a poor, rural area where basics like running water and electricity could not be taken for granted. We had a patient with postpartum hemorrhage, and she got a dose of Hemobate. Diarrhea resulted, as it often does with this med, and the patient was incontinent because the epidural was still effective. One of my coworkers pulled back the sheets to start the cleanup only to run screaming (literally) from the room. The bed was filled with feces and wriggly squiggly jumpy worms. The patient had intestinal parasites, and we expelled them for her. That's what happens when your well is too close to your septic tank.
