What Would Jesus Do?

A man is being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turns yellow, just in front of him. He does the honest thing, and stops at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman hits the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she misses her chance to get through the intersection with him.

As she is still in mid-rant, she hears a tap on her window and looks up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer orders her to exit her car with her hands up. He takes her to the police station where she is searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approaches the cell and opens the door. She is escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer is waiting with her personal effects.

He says, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping the guy off in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the ' What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday School' bumper sticker, and the chrome plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."

1) obviously this was a joke and isn't meant to "show" anything.

2) your comment seems troll-like and offensive.

If the joke were, say, about a person of color, would you be so quick to point out the "so-called hypocrisy of people of color?"

Didn't think so.

Cute joke. It reminded me of a conversation we had at a women's bible study once. Some of the ladies were venting some frustrations with getting husbands to help in household chores...getting frustrated with doing everything for their husbands. The bible study leader was sympathetic, and said that we should think about nice ways to encourage them to do more, and that we should try to think of doing things for them as being giving and Christ-like.
She said, "If Jesus came into your kitchen and asked you to a fix him a sandwich, would you do it?"
The frustrated lady replied, "Well, YEAH, but Jesus would take out the TRASH!!!!

What, was that too close to home for you?
This anecdote was very poignant.
As you stated in your "people in glass houses post", people should strive for honest perfection in their own lives, prior to denegrading the practices of others - in this instance, via religious propaganda.

I took this as a joke, not offensive at all. Sometimes we read more into things then was originally intended.

chris_at_lucas, perhaps you did not understand my comment. what i was trying to convey was that that joke illustrated how some people who call themselves christians often act in a way that is totally opposite (hence the use of the word hypocricy). i was not making a derogatory comment about christians. i am a christian, and i try very hard to not be a "so-called" one.
