"Sweetheart, Can you get me that little bottle of booze that was in my pants pocket. For some reason somebody took away my clothes and I'm very, very thirsty" This from a 62 year old woman who initially had a ETOH level of 536.

Now this one's almost beyond belief! Last evening the fire alarm went off. (It was a false alarm in the end..faulty something or other.) While the NA's and I were running around securing and checking the wing, one of our residents rang her call bell. The reason? To tell us the fire alarm was going off. Heck, she had to scream to be heard above the clanging bells.... OH, and while I was there.,...could I fluff her pillow? I love my job...I love my job....I love my job...... :-)

Re: share the weirdest reasons patients push the call light for

I had a elderly woman call me to her room several times to help her wipe her nose one night. Finally, she said " Could you just hold this Kleenex under my nose for me so I can sleep."
Another time a middle aged man wanted me to shave his rectum because he couldn't clean the BM out of the hair there. Sounds like a personal problem to me. LOL!

I love it when they call, you enter the room, and they have spit a little something up and exclaim "I'm THROWING UP!!!" What do you say? "I can see that?"

Re: share the weirdest reasons patients push the call light for

I work at a nursing home and rehab as a CNA. I have one resident who is not able to walk anymore after a car accident. Her and the roommate will get on their call lights for the most aggravating things. The other night I entered the room and she wanted me to count how many ants were in the floor. I think the most aggravating but funny is when we go in there and she ask "what are you doing?"

Re: share the weirdest reasons patients push the call light for

These are AWESOME!!!!

I work in peds and the best is when they call out and say they "need their nurse"... "can she bring you anything?"... "no..." you get there and it's "Can I have some grape juice?"

I am sure THAT one has been covered by you all ad nauseam though... it's universal!!!

And my favorite is when someone calls out, you hear the kid wailing in the background and they say "his IV's out!!" you go in the room swearing under your breath (if you're me LOL) and then find out the tubing just came unhooked... WHEW!!!!

Or how about the families who just want you to take that pulse ox off... I can understand when it's a baby kicking his foot and it's not picking up; we know he's ok and that DOES get very annoying; but when it's a kid dead asleep and they have drifting-down sats that we need to keep adjusting O2 and giving tx for... that's a different story!!

I am not sure of your relationship with this patient, or i this patient might get on your last nerve.

But if I EVER found out a nurse had callede me a Beached Whale, you bet I would make some heads roll.

I can't believe you would refer to someone in this context. It disgusts me.

Possibly because I am a 400 lb NON-beached whale who recently lost 150lbs.

But still. This makes me sick. It's not enough that I have to convince myself that people are NOT looking and talking about me in degrading ways. Now I have to actually see what people who supposedly have my Health in their hands MIGHT be saying about me.

What ever happend to compassion.
