Have one tonite that keeps calling me because he can't find his penis, he has a PEG and keeps insisting his penis fell inside his stomach and he needs to keep pulling on the PEG so his penis will come out!!

I am a nurse and also have been the patient. This is kind of a reverse spin on things. Had my gallbladder taken out and the gas they left in went under my diaphragm and pushed it up, so I couldn't get my breath. I'm sitting there gasping for air (yes I looked like a fish out of water) I turn my call light on, my husband runs out of the room and yells "she can't breathe" and the first thing the nurse says to me is "It's to early for your pain medicine" Well I couldn't get no sound out but I mouthed "f the painmeds" Her eyes got big and she said well it will be ok just take a few deep breathes. I really thought this nurse was going to stand there and let me die, I thinking in my head "get some O2, get a ambu bag, SOMETHING PLEASE." The gas finially shifted again and I got my breath back.

Had a little 18 year old septic princess that pushed the call light to get someone to come in the room and move her glass of water closer for her to reach. Oh ya, the call light was farther away from her on the try than the water

Probably not the weirdst but the most annoying call light ring is from the 400-500 pound beached whale that says "Pull me up". I have to keep from biting my tongue and saying "The LORD helps those that help themselves."

I had a patient today who pressed the call bell literally every 5 minutes, if not sooner. One time after she called on the call bell I went in and what do u think she wants? She wanted me to move the IV pole so she could see the clock. She wanted to be able to count down the minutes to when she could use her PCA button next.



p.s. when i left the room, i walked around the corner and sure enough, there she was on the call bell again!!

Had a lady push the call bell and ask to leave a wake up call!
The clerk asked her, "For what time?", and she stated that 7:00 am would be fine. The clerk just laughed and told her that around here the lab comes in at 5:00 am and she would be wide awake long before 7:00!

"I once had a patient who called me to the room to wipe his butt because he did not wipe his own butt at home....his wife did. (I'm not kidding about this)

That same patient would call me to his room to pull the bedside table closer to him, and pour him a cup of cold water. He didn't have to do this for himself at home. His wife did it, or their "help" did it."

I bet his wife was enjoying her vacation from him while he was in the hospital!
