I am a correctional nurse and deal with a alot of psych pt. One day my 10 year old daughter was at school, and a boy in her class has adhd and was having a hard day, being unruly and throwing things.My daughter kindly said ms. page give him a valium, thats what mommy would do. Needless to say I got a call from the teacher and had to explain how she new about valium.

Out of the mouth of babes! My son once told Grandma that "my mom does drugs". She, of course, wasted no time to find out what was up with that...He learned that "nicotine was a drug" in school. You just never know what they'll think of next!

A former coworker told me about a pt who was brought in during the wee hours of the morning, unresponsive after a heroin OD. She got narcan'd and came up fighing and hissing mad, screaming "What happened? What am I doing here??"

Coworker was giggling as he told me his response to her: "Your high go bye-bye!"

I remember when I was 7 or 8 and there was a ad about drinking and driving on the radio and we were in the car and there was my mom drinking her pepsi. I looked at her and told her it was wrong to drink and drive. She quickly had to explain to me that they ment alcohol and not pop,water and juice. I took that statement too literally. I think about it and laugh now though. At the time I really did think my mom would get pulled over and to to jail.

When I was small child I wanted a baby sister so badly. I knew that babies came from hospitals, just not how they got there. I was about 4 when we were in the car driving past the post hospital, and I started begging, "Mommy, please go buy me a baby sister, pleeeeeeze!!"


When my husband and I were living together I knew we would get married but didn't know when he would propose. The kids were 9 and 10 at that time (his from first marriage). Every single weekend that the kids came to us the 9-yr-old would ask me "Did Daddy propose yet?"

One weekend after getting the usual answer of "Not yet" she started bugging her daddy to ask me. I thought I was getting him off the hook when I explained to her that men usually like to propose in private. She grabbed our hands and pulled us to the bedroom, shoved us inside and slammed the door, and yelled from the other side of the door, "There! You're in private, now ask her!"

We both cracked up but I didn't realize until a couple weeks later why Hubs was laughing as hard as he was: it was December and my ring was already wrapped and under the tree. He proposed Christmas morning.

Be thankful that your daughter is 10 years old. My 25 year old son, who is the associate minister at his church, and works with troubled kids at a jv detentioncenter tells his jv kids that his mother ties people up for a living. Of course he then explains that his mom is a nurse and is sometimes involved in restraining people as part of her job. But for him, the shock factor for these kids gets their attention. After learning this, they tend to listen to my son more, or so he says.
