I guess the main difference between horse clinics and people clinics is that we don't use tractors in the hospital . Other than that, that doesn't sound unfamiliar .

Hillbilly Hospital...I was walking through the ER tonight and a psych patient offered our security guard a peice of his chocolate cake and as I kept walking I heard the guard reply..."No thanks, I just put some chew in my mouth"....

You gotta love it

Re: Funniest real orders you have seen in a chart?

Well, as a LPN in a LTC setting I have seen my share of laughter inducing charting/orders.
Just recently, we had a resident return from the hospital. On the paper work listed procedures done. One such procedure was a "barium enema that revealed esophageal varices". That must be one heck of an enema!!

This on an ICU pt: "Please, for the love of God, transfer pt to floor. Monitored bed not necessary."

Also once had a pt with the admitting dx of "TFTB"--too fat to breathe.

Re: Funniest real orders you have seen in a chart?

I just had this one the other night, I was going through the MD's orders b/c I was looking for the last time a med was ordered and found this
"Keep pt. with head up at all times" and this ridiclous drawing, in the orders
-head
__\__
\ -body and hands
^
/ \ -feet

I said to my charge nurse, crying b/c I was laughing so hard, "What the **** is this?" and does the MD think that we don't know what it means or look like when they say keep HOB elevated, but the MD didn;t even say keep HOB elevated, just that ridiclous order with a pic. I also said, "this was written at 9am, did day shift even look at the rid. order?" Yea it was written 3 days ago and never taken off or noted. I think as cardiac nurses we know to keep the HOB elevated, but I saw the MD that night and said to him, "what the *** is this picture?" as I was hysterical and could barely get out the words, he said, "oh that, I was wondering when one of you would pick up on that, I was tired and well, I wanted to draw a picture", I said to the MD, who I am friends with, "what are you like 5 y.o., I have some colored markers in my bag if u want to color it in." hahahaha
