Talking Fun at the nursing desk! LOL

I am an agency nurse who has been working at this one hospital now for 4 months. I like working there very much, and choose only to work there. There are talks of buying my contract or trying to hire me PRN somehow. I guess they like my skills and my zany personality...

Well...yesterday, I guess I got initiated as part of the group! LOL!!!!!!!

So here I was, a patient chose to do their own insulin and CBG checks because she was unhappy with the way the MD had ordered them done at the hospital. So I needed to call the hospitalist to let them know (the patient was going to be discharged so I didn't think this would be a probelm but must let the MD know anyway).

Now, I am getting very good at knowing many doctors, but this one I didn't know. So I paged him to a phone near me and waited. Little did I know he was standing right behind me! He causually walked off and spoke to all the MD's at the desk (there were about 4), my charge nurse then the other nurses! Of course I didn't even notice!

So...there I was waiting and they pulled the prank! They kept calling me to different rooms for odd tasks! I was like "umm, I have a page into the doc...oh let me get it". They watched me run like a chicken with my head cut off to the furthest rooms, doing the task fast, coming back sob...and they would do this again after waiting for me to say "did the MD call yet?" (which they said no).

Meanwhile the MD was just waiting for me to badmouth or whatnot the fact he hadn't called back...LOL! Lucky for me I didn't! I was saying "wow, I hope he isn't in an emergency this early!"...guess I won there! LOL!

Finally after 30 minutes I paged again. He went to the phone at the other end of the desk and called me back. EVERYONE was at the desk..again I didnt' notice..LOL!

I was very sweet, wished him a good morning and ran off with the info. Finally I finished and he said "okay the first thing I need you to do is look to your left!"...

I was like ??????, and did it....there he was with the biggest grin waving at me! LOL!!!!! The entire desk full of about 5 nurses, 4 docs, and several RT's and PT's and a discharge planner busted up laughing soooooo hard. There I was with the phone STILL up to my ear..red faced..and laughing!!!!! He told me "sweety you can put the phone down now!" LOL!!!!!!

I will never forget that MD's name ever! LOL!!!!! They got me good!!!!!! It was hillarious! Lucky for me I enjoy that type of thing!

Now..hmmmmmm wonder what I am going to do in return? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(BTW I have a great sence of humor and NEVER turn red...this was a very good pun!!!!! I loved it!)...

Yep. I'm convinced the #1 skill you need in nursing is a wacky sense of humor. All the rest of it (almost) can be acquired!

Heee. One of the nurses where I'm doing my preceptorship (and hope to get a job) asked me the other day if I considered myself dysfunctional. Well, of course I do, but I wasn't going to say that, so I just answered, "Um, no....?" So she said "don't worry. If you work here, you'll get there!"

OMG! Our fun time seems to be around 2:00 - 4:00 am. We put the radio on the 80's station and do "karaoke", but we intentionally sing BAD
