Smile CNA Abuse??

This was the weekend that one of my evening CNA's started on the nightshift and wouldn't you know we would have the "weekend from hell." I also had a new evening CNA covering the shift left open by my new night aide. Both of them did excellent work in trying circumstances and by last night we were all beginning to feel the stress.

Halfway through the very maddening HS med pass, we were having a conference by the med cart and Renee (eve) began massaging my shoulders, it felt sooooooo good. Dorene (noc) was standing at the end of the med cart. Thinking to bring a bit of laughter into what continued to be a hairpulling shift, I got the idea to fake a faint.

So there is Renee, 6 1/2 mos pregnant, massaging my shoulders and Dorene bringing me the lastest update on impending disaster. I pulled the best acting job of my life and faked a faint, holding onto the med cart. I went all the way to just barely above the floor. I felt two pairs of hands guiding me down, I told you they are good aides! Then I stood up and started laughing at the looks on their faces, it was priceless. A little bit of horror, mixed with large quantities of surprise and confusion. All of which changed to a little bit of anger and LAUGHTER when they realized I had faked them out.

It made the rest of Renee's shift and Dorene's and my night go so much better. Even though everything was still on the edge of insanity around us, we could laugh and make the best of it. Renee did remind me that paybacks are a b!^ch! Now I'll have to be on my toes to keep ahead of anything they may try on me! That's okay though, keeps us alive and laughing!

I don't know how they spent their day, but I slept for 12 hours straight...

I can sympathize with "one of those nights". Last weekend I worked. Saturday night was very peaceful. But then came Sunday night. All the alarms were ringing, people were sliding out of their chairs, some of them were howling. It wasn't at the moon because it was a very explosive and stormy night. I mean, lightning show and torrential rain. It made me wonder if there is some kind of a relationship (between weather and behavior). Probably not. But the last time it stormed prior to this incident the same thing happened. Chaos. A newly admitted resident decided it wasn't the place for her and packed the following morning.

OH my...during one of my he**ish shifts two CNA's were playfully razzing me something fierce when I was charting! I was giggling and all the sudden...I don't know what came over me...I bent over like I my hand was hurting really bad (rubbing my arm and everything).

They ran over to help me and were very concerned with my moaning..then suddenly I popped up (looked around so there were no other people around!!!) and said..."no this finger hurts bad!!!!!!" Guess what finger! LOL!" They about hit the floor laughing!!!!!!

NO far from professional, but this was a late night shift...LOL, we tend to be a little odd! (now the gals are doing this calling it the {my name} RN manuver! LOL!!!!!! Even my bosses laughed and said..that's our girl!

My new Friday admit, hip replacement, tried to kick his covers off on Saturday morning...dislocating his new hip for the second time...five minutes before report. That's when the rest of the weekend turned insane.

I currently have three men who need to be straight-cathed twice a shift, two tube feeders, two patients receiving chemo and radiation (barf fest) three with dementia, and three laminectomies that came out of surgery last Tuesday...this isn't counting the other 12 patients who are in various stages of their rehab.

It's not normally this hectic. Back to hibernating till Friday!

Tend to be??? No, we nightshifters are definitely ODD to the nth degree. I'm glad I am not the only one out here with problems AND the same sense of humor!

I had lunch with Dorene and Renee today (payday)...we had a good time.
