Unhappy Waiting after commission

Hi,

I am newly commissioned (April 22nd) in the Army Reserve (66h8a). I was told by my recruiter that it would take 45 to 60 days to receive "paperwork" from Washington, before I can start with my battalion.

Did it take that long for anyone else on the reserve side? I don't think my paperwork has been sent yet. So, it looks like I may not attend OBLC until Oct or January---yikes
No wonder there is a shortage of nurses, this is a pretty slow turn around after signing the dotted line! Is it faster for active duty?

Re: Waiting after commission

My experience for Air Force (active duty) took forever. Application was signed and turned in sometime in September. Found out I was accepted in late November. It wasn't until January that I was commissioned. I didn't get orders until last week...on top of that, I'm actually reporting in for duty only 3 weeks later. How's that for short notice? I hope things work more quickly for you with the Army Reserves.

Hi,

Thank you for writing! My process has been similar to yours up to now.
My application was turned in Feb (after 3mos of paperwork), commissioned late April. So, theoretically oblc might not happen this year. Sadly, because I was hoping to be in the mix for deployments---possibly late fall. But, that doesnt look like it is going to happen.

Does anyone know if OBLC "fills up" way in advanced? What are the deadlines for signing up---I know the unit will apply for me, I am just curious.

thanks

Re: Waiting after commission

My husband graduated from VMI in May 1992. He didn't leave to go to his first base until April 1993. He sat around for almost a year! so yes it looks like this is a normal thing.. sorry. But he does get promoted according to the May 1992 date not 1993

Re: Waiting after commission

hey, i was commissioned on january 2 and received papers in early march. my secret clearance wasnt complete until may 31st. I joined as a 66h8a in the IMA (big mistake) because i want to go to Iraq and was told it may be my best option to volunteer for deployment. your unit has to submit your paperwork for OBLC (another fact i was not aware of). i will be going to oblc in august, but am already researching how to switch to active duty. also, i got the bonus in march too i think...the first 10 thousand of a thirty thousand three year committment.

Hi,

I also want to be deployed---I did just get my papers, but now I have to wait until 2009 to go to the 2 courses of OBLC (see my thread I started today).
They told me I have to wait for my sign on bonus until I complete the OBLC's?

I know people do switch from reserve to active. Look through the allnurses postings---I remember a conversation about it.

Do you know who I can contact about this OBLC situation? I have thought of calling Fort Sam Houston...... someone must know the answer.
