Oh my gosh, that just sounds sweet. :0) My grandmother is 84.

Gen-kind of a reality check to think that she was about my age now when I was born!!! New perspective to realize how youthful she still is now, (I'd better prepare for the long haul because i'd like to be getting raises at 83 too).

Re: Proposed 2008 Military Base Pay for Officers

I have never and will never complain about my pay. My base this time next year will be $5,770.00, plus all my benefits. There is no way, short of working every day that I could match that in the Civy world. When I think of all the money I've saved going through the Navy. I flew from Italy to the states and back and it cost me all of $147 for 5 people, gotta love AMC stand-by. Just the money I save in the medical care is enough for me. If they want to give me a 1% riase in January, fine, that's 1% I didn't have and probably wouldn't get in a civy job. To me it's a matter of perspective, having been in for 10+ now, my perspective is good.

Good deal, where you going to be living? Last time we talked I think you found a place in Gaithersburg, still living there? Let me know, I'd like to meet up some day for lunch.

We ended with a townhouse in Rockville. It is 3/2.5 w/ 2240sf for 1770 a month so we are pretty happy about that.

How long are supposed to stationed up there?

I don't get there until Jan 2008, after I graduate from DUINS, I'll be there until 2010. It's nice for us because me going there means we get to stay in one spot for almost 5 years. The Mrs. is thinking DUINS too at USHSS and that would put us here even longer, we'll see. I go down often because the Mrs. is there on the 6th floor L&D and I do all my medical there as well. You're doing CRNA at USHSS(sp) right? I have a friend going into the FNP program there as well, starts this summer too. That's not a bad deal on the house, nice for you guys. If you need anything when you get here let me know, I have a truck if you need help from the airport.

Hi,
They have FNP? Yet I think my situation would not really qualify, due to having the FNP core and MS done for my entry to nursing degree. HOWEVER, back to pay...I've been thinking that since my active duty component is six years AND I've heard that after one full year active that I could apply for another HPLRP, (30K for another 3 year committment) that maybe that would be very benefitial in every which way.

Changing my committment from six active duty years to nine...why not shoot for a third HPLRP and make it a nice TWELVE year committment, (if I can of course). I think I like this. Having worked in civilian hospitals as unlicense assistive personnel, for over a decade I am pretty sure that I am going to appreciate Military hospitals.

Until a poster here mentioned applying for the HPLRP multiple times I had not really thought about it. I sure have the loans to go for it!
Gen-and the time in service increasing rank/salary sounds very attractive too

Dan,

I will be there next Monday. We will have to plan on having lunch over at the hospital one day next month, and you can show me around the hospital.

Re: Proposed 2008 Military Base Pay for Officers

Wtb-

sounds good.

Gen-

Yes, HPLRP is a good deal along with the committment. I look at any committment this, it's a guaranteed job for the next 9 years. With your committment you have to "endure" getting a raise every January and another raise every 2 years you are on active duty. Oh, forgot to mention after 2 years you get a promotion, after 4 years another, and they just keep coming (some harder than others). Let's not forget they move your stuff for free and if you want go live overseas for 3 years, they're paying for it, I did. Yeah, pretty rough life, that's why you never hear me complain about my pay, doesn't get any better if you ask me.

I guess my bitterness towards the military healthcare system for family members comes thru in my posting style. Maybe its better now. I truly hope so.
