Hello! I am a former active duty medical officer but figured I could get a current perspective here.

My husband is a ROTC instructor at a university. He was asked to give a presentation that I think is a bit out of his scope as a non medical officer. Unfortunately, he reluctantly already agreed. He is now really desperate for information or anecdotal advice from military nurses.

He was asked to discuss:

"your recent expereince in Iraq, what insight you may have about outreach to returning soldiers who may need healthcare, and other information you would find useful to the work of the (VA advisory) committee."

He is a an engineering by training, a cop in the military, now working as an asst professor...but not a nurse!! ; )

The audience members will be a mixture of nurses, nursing students and veterans from previous wars.

We have a friend in Germany at Landstuhl that is trying to track down information but we don't know if it will arrive in time.

Any stories, presentations, info for him to present etc??

Not sure if this would help, but many of the veterans that I know and that I have dealt with would like for there to be a better coordination of benefits and a little quicker, when they come back and out of service. We have had a number of soldiers come back from Iraq and needed medical care, but could not access care at the VAMC because of benefit restrictions. I am not sure why this is, but apparently, it has something to do with tri-care. So, that might be an interesting topic to talk about.
