I know this is premature as I won't be going to COT until July/August, but does anyone know if we will need to bring our private medical records with us, or do they just start a new one on you, or do we just sign a medical records release. Wanted to have everything in order before I go. Any info would be appreciated. (This is for the AF)

Thanks a bunch!

No you shouldn't need your medical record unless you are taking something w/ a controlled substance in it ie. cough syrup, pain meds etc. You will be getting a drug test, I think, your very 1st day that you are there. One guy I went to COT with got cough syrup w/ codeine in it right before going to COT, and it took about a day and half to get it all straightened out after he tested positive on his drug test.

DO NOT FORGET YOUR SHOT RECORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any vaccinations you don't have documentation for you will be getting again, no arguments, no stalling, just more shots.....lol...

I knew a couple of people that forgot their shot records in COT. They got every shot all over again!

Re: Medical Records

Will I need to track down civilian medical records eventually? What I mean is, will they want to see them at some point, not just during in-processing? At 34 years old I have lived all over the place and have never really had a medical home. Is there a way that the military can help me track them down if need be? I doubt I could even remember most of the names of doctors I've seen.

The only thing other than vaccination records I had to provide was a letter from my physician about being on Zantac OTC and even then they didn't want my medical records just a short statement from my physician. Typically, the military is only going to worry about things you will/might need a waiver for ie. a Knee surgery in 2003 you might have to come up with somekind of record or statement from the physician stating you are good to go.

I wouldn't worry about digging up old medical records, if MEPS doesn't need it then the military probably isn't going to need or want it.
