Info re: USPHS

Hi everyone! I am still several years away from completing my BSN (am currently doing prerequisites) but am looking to the future and am very much interested in the USPHS.

I had some confusion about whether you are "stationed" somewhere or whether you apply at a location of your choosing. I saw the databank of positions on their website. I love where we live (Alaska) and it seems there are positions available here (makes sense, as there is a high military presence here anyway and certainly a need in re: to native populations). What are the chances that I can just stay put with my family?

I am not intimidated by short-term deployments during times of crisis in our country, but I am concerned about the possibility of being moved all over with my family. Consequently, I am thinking that working for the VA might be a way to serve our country while also retaining that type of freedom.

Any thoughts on the subject? Thank you!!
