I want to be an Army nurse!
|
|
I am a LPN my mos will be 91wm6. I graduated in feb and have not been satisfied with the nursing experience I am getting, I have had two jobs so far and in both my main purpose is/was passing medications. I really want to use the knowledge I have from school. I also want to join because when I see pictures or watch the news I want to help. So that is why I want to join. Here are my fears, or things people tell me.
1.Will I really get the experience I am looking for?
2.Am I too old? I am 23
3.Will I be worked to death and have no time for friends or relationships?
4.Will I been able to work on getting my RN while enlisted?
5.If a first duty station and mos are in my contract could the Army break the contract?
6.Would the Army be able to not give me the gi bill college money after I get out?
The Army is something I really want to do but almost everyone I tell says it is a bad decision. Please answer what you can. I really want to hear views of people who are in.

Enlisted nurses [91WM6] in the AMEDD are very valuable. LPNs in the AMEDD are given more nursing care responsibilities [within the scope of their license] compared to civilian LPNs, IMHO. In fact, I've seen some outstanding M6 nurses in the ICU at Madiagn Army Medical Center. BTW, 23 yrs old is still a puppy.

Ditto what Corvette Guy said!
feb06, check out these websites:

As has been said before you will eventually need to speak to a health care recruiter.
Good Luck with your decision. I can only speak for myself, but it was the best thing I had done for myself (becoming a Commissioned Officer in the ANC) I have met so many caring, professional, knowledgeable Soldiers and Officers alike. And the rewards you will reap are many.
I am a VA Nurse and the spirit of a Veterans Administration Nurse (well, by this VA Nurse) can be summed up by this: "If it is to be, it is up to me" We take care of our Wounded Warriors no matter where they are -- at home, Down Range, in the VA.....
Respectfully,
athena

Army Health Care Recruiters only deal with officer candidates. So, the OP will need to go through a standard Army recruiter. Again, being very careful to examine the enlistment contract for guaranteed 91WM6.

Cool Yeah I don't see myself as too old. I just have a lot of people telling me "You should of done that when you were 18 not now"

I've been a Devil Dog as far back as 1980 since completing USMC Boot Camp, at MCRD San Diego.

I am having a problem getting in. I have some medical problems but my recruiter is going to resumit my medical records after I have a test done. The medical issues I have are things that I don't take medication for or have any treatments. My doctor is going to write a letter to say that I have no health precautions or treatments or restrictions on my activity, so maybe that will help. I don't understand why they wouldn't let me in with the conditions I have.
