How long is a "typical" Army CONUS assignment?

Just curious how long I should expect to stay in one place. I'm talking AMEDD officers here. Not yet an Army nurse, but a Clinical Laboratory Officer working on BSN.

Thanks.

Usually 3-5 years. Branch also recommends that if your last assignment was to a MEDCEN, then the next should be to a MEDDAC. You should also try to get in a FORSCOM assignment as well. This mixture gives you a variety of experiences and makes you look good in front of a promotion/selection board. Good luck to you.

Hello Jarnaes,

I am glad IU95 asked this question. So, 3-5 years sounds really stable to me, (heck I don't even stay 3-5 years in one place now!) This is promising.

Would you have any idea of how often a person might be sent elsewhere for training during that time? I am curious to see how often I would have to get a friend to foster my cats or to need to kennel them.

Thanks!
Gen-still not sure of my first post assignment yet

Can one put in for a transfer request earlier than that?
