Re: Currently in OBLC

hi,

Look at post # 27 above and follow the link for army requirement. I don't know about navy and airforce.

For OBlC info. you can search allnurse.com for "OBLC", there are some great threads in the last 2 years on the topic.
Good luck

Re: Currently in OBLC

For the record, officer boot camp-AKA OBLC, is a LOT different than enlisted boot camp. If you are good following instructions and able to tell right from wrong, then you will do fine. Stick with the prior service ones and you will be fine. The army will not kick you out unless you do something totally stupid and unethical.

Good luck.

Re: Currently in OBLC

Wow, thanks for the great post! I am going in August to OBLC. If I already live in SA, do I still stay with everyone else? My recruiter told me I could stay at my house if I wanted. Is this correct? Do many have their own computers? Laptops? PDAs? Thanks for all the great info!

Re: Currently in OBLC

Sorry about the last post. I was at work and in a hurry. I meant to ask about PDAs and if they are allowed in military hospitals. Are cell phones allowed if they have a camera? I have a Treo that could be used as a PDA, but I thought I had heard something about not being allowed to bring something like this there.

Re: Currently in OBLC

You can have a cell phone as long as you keep it on silent. You should also have no problem staying at your own place since the army won't have to pay for your stay at the BOQ

Re: Currently in OBLC

Hi,
Thanks for all the great info. I am going in Aug for OBC. I am trying to decide if I should bring my car. My recruiter seems to think I NEED to have it...but as I am coming from michigan and then my first assignment is at Ft. Bliss, I just can't see all that driving back and forth to texas.

Any advice on whether or not one would need a car. How is transportation? Is it easy to get around on base, to the city, etc...

Thanks,
kim

HI! I am preparing to join the Army Nurse Corp and have fears of OBLC. How can we best prepare for this process? What does the PT test consist of?
thank you and best of luck

Re: Currently in OBLC

Start running, do push ups and situps until you can't. Honestly. It will pay off. Google army pt test and download the fitness reg and you can see how many you need to do to max according to age/gender.

As for the car, bring it or you will be sorry. You will get reimbursed for the mileage. Keep all receipts for hotels and gas on your way down. Have fun.

Re: Currently in OBLC

Sounds like you are in active OBLC do you know anything about Reserve OBLC. I can't seem to find much on it other than it is 26 days. Is it only the FTX portion? Also, have you done FTX when you run an aide station? Just wondering if you perform your specialty or if they stick you anywhere. I have been an OR nurse for 10 yrs and don't remember what the hell to do anywhere else.
