Is the ASVAB important to take after receiving and passing the NCLEX-RN? Speaking of RN, someone told me I could go into the Navy as an RN.... I thought I had to get my BSN. Is it true? I'm hoping cause my goal to become a Navy nurse kinda got pushed back a few years and I wanna go in within three years...

For anyone who has taken the ASVAB, how is it? Would taking that help getting into the OIS? What's an example of a question that is on the test? Looking at this stuff on military.com makes me think back to the SATs... oy!

ASVAB is for enlistment, or for pre-NCLEX student nurse candidates, (and only those applying for the student stipend and bonuses).

From what I know the only branch which will take an associate degree RN is the Army Reserves and you would still be encouraged to go for your BSN.

I took the ASVAB, (initially applied for the student nurse program). I found out 30 minutes prior that I'd be taking it. No studying, no advanced clue what it was...it was fine. Even though I tend to fly through tests because I read quickly and *am* always self-motivated to go quickly, I took the test in about 40 minutes and got a comp score of 88 and all my line scores were over 105 or higher.

If you've made it into nursing school, THROUGH nursing school and NCLEX...ASVAB will be a walk in the park for you. It is merely a vocational aptitude and not an intelligence test of any sort.

Gen-but, it is for enlisted, (officers have different tests and medical officers do not generally take ASVAB anyhow).

Just to add to what GEN said...ASVAB as no wt on you "getting in to OIS". OIS is training all officers go through after they sign the paper work and get commission.

ASVAB stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, which is a multiple choice test used to figure out what qualifications you have/what you will do in the miltary if you are enlisting.

OIS is Officer Indoctrination School, which I always think of as the officer's boot camp. But, now that I think of it, I could be wrong.
