hello everybody

I know that Army doctor`s and CRNAs do 6 months in a combat zone.

It is true the rumor that the Army is planning to do the same with the rest of the RN`s??

6 months would be fantastic , anybody know anything or this is just bull...?

well i hope not i deploy in november and have been told my deployment will only be 6 months

Current deployment "guidelines" from higher HQs state that you are only going for 6 months. Keep in mind this only apply for PROFIS (professional filler system) personnel.

In other words...If you are assigned to a combat support hospital and they get tapped in the shoulder to go to some place, that unit will be there for X number of months depending what the army wants.

But if you have orders going saying that you are going to a Medical center like Walter Reed, Trippler and so on... then you will eventually be PROFIS and will only go for 6 months.

The bottom line is to take things lightly and always factor the "what if" because you could end up there for 9 months or more if things go different than planned and you will have to fulfill and do according to the needs of the army.

how long have you been in? Where are you working? If you have been in less than a year and are a new nurse with less than 12 months, your HQ should not be sending you to the sandbox. Where are you stationed?

right now i am in the air national guard, just a student nurse

just wanna see what the army offers, and i am comparing to the air force

i leave in nov and will be in a year come aug. they will send you with as little as 6 months on station if you volunteer, we just sent a 66H who wanted to go because of her husbands deployment and they wanted to be over there at the same time. i am slotted to go with a CSH and they already have people slotted for the first 6 months and the second 6 months.

Looks to me like the senior ranks are back to the same old deals when I first came in. The chief of the corp had told everyone not to send anyone with no less than a year experience, but since she is about to retire, oh well....

You must be "high speed with no sag in the middle" Good for you. You will do fine and just ask all the questions and prepare before the s%^&*( hits the fan. You sound like you are going with the 21st? or 10th CSH....

Does deployment anyway help a nurse’s career (since one is in the armed services its probably going to happen anyway)? Does volunteer deployment vs. waiting for eventual assigned deployment make any difference? How / where do they use nurses, especially new nurses? Know of any NPs that have been deployed?
