ANCP anyone? good, bad, ugly??

Ok, a Little background. I'm 35 and a soph nursing student. I met with a recruiter yesterday regarding the army nurse candidate program. We have a ROTC here, but I apparently am "too old" for them, which is fine. Anyone have comments on the program, and my "fit" into the age group and all? From what I understand, I'd be middle of the road, but anyone have other info? Much appreciated. Thanks!

Possibly it is the ROTC your age exceeds the limit but, not the Army Nurse Candidate Program.

I applied and am 40, the reason I was passed is because my program is not BSN and one must be in the final two years of their BSN with at least 6 months towards graduation.

So, you are a potential ANCP program. You are not in the middle of the road from where I see it. The ANCP is for students at schools that do not have ROTC, or maybe also if you do not qualify for ROTC. I would speak with a HEALTH care recruiter at AMEDD to get to the truth.

Good luck,
Gen

Gen, my recruiter is a health care recruiter, but thanks for the reply. Above poster, I guess my main questions were: do you qualify for loan repayment and is your program in an ROTC school? I'm confused on the issues with them. Thanks for your replies guys.

Hi,
I see this is directed to RME but, I tend to think that it is either ANCP, (which has a 5k bonus at sign up, a monthly stipend and a 5K bonus at graduation) or the health professions loan repayment program.

Re: ANCP anyone? good, bad, ugly??

i am at a school that has rotc (army and air force-i did not qualify for either). when i signed up for ANCP, it was only the bonus and stipend. i have received general information sent out about the army (sent to everyone at my school) and have noticed what you are talking about - stipend and loan repayment. this is what was on the flyer:
Just the Facts
*sign on bonus of $25,000
*student loan repayment of $30,651
*Combination of both: sign on bonus of $10,000 and loan repayment of $30,651
this information could have been geared toward just trying to sign someone up and not necessarily the ANCP program which i think was left off this flyer. with the ANCP program if you sign up as soon as you start the nursing school portion you get paid for usually 21 months total (even though the army says they will pay for 24 months most programs are from mid aug- mid may if you go to a traditional university) and then a total of $10,000 as a bonus (i actually was paid at the beginning of each school year - in aug - not at the end of graduation). so that ends up being a total of $31,000 that i will have paid to me for the ANCP by graduation. i would not have had the amount of $30,651 for my loan repayments so this program would not have been the best option for me. i would have ended up with only about $27,000 instead of the $31,000 i ended up with by going with the ANCP. but if you have loans that are up there then the loan repayment and bonus might work well for you. if you need an income during school then the ANCP program i think would work better. i needed the income during school. i am really happy with the program and would recommend it to anyone but you have to look over the $ options the army offers or any other service and see which one fits your needs better. you might as well get the most money you can for your time in service.
