AF Reserves?? RN/BSN STIPEND Program??

Hi there,

I am a prior enlisted AD USAF member. I got out in 2003 after 9 years in to goto nursing school (BSN). I will graduate in May 2007 with my BSN. I desire to go AF Reserves once I get my BSN and then get my commission. However, after recently talking to the health professions recruiter he said that since I spent 9 years in already active, why not go in now as enlisted in my old AFSC (Medical Lab) in the same reserve unit during my last year of school. The program he mentioned is the "STIPEND" program, and while in it as enlisted I would draw drill pay as normal PLUS I'd get $100 extra each month on top of that. Additionally, I'd accrue an extra year of potential retirement points (provided I did 11 years in the reserves). My concern however, is that I get back in as enlisted and finish school, and then I have to jump through 1 million hoops to goto OTS and get my commission.

Anyone here use this program and can shed some light? I meet face to face with the enlisted recruiter on Monday June 19th at 10am. She is all pumped that I might be coming in but doesn't seem to know anything of the STIPEND program.

I could use the extra $420+ per month now during my last year in school and love serving my country, but I have served my time as enlisted and wish to become an officer as soon as I am able.

What do you guys/gals think??

Thanks so much for any available info or experiences.

Nathan
