I am a legal nurse consultant, but what I really enjoy is teaching. I do alot of community education and own an online website for continuing education. I want to alighn with group homes and ALF's to do mock pre survey to review regulations and do consulting reports on found deficiencies to make them survey ready. I believe there is a market for this in my area. I am excited and very motivated, I own a school for CPR training and we are a leading provider in our area. I want to start teaching CNA classes and am in the beginning stages of finding out how to go about doing this, I just need to get board approval. I have a provider number already with the florida baord of nursing and a classroom to accommodate the students, and a local nursing home that will support clinicals.
so what do you think?

Wow, you are busy. Congratulation on your ongoing successes.

Regarding the CNA Classes, I see the potential in my area too. It must be a common need. I have not researched this but it seems to be a profitable field of benefit to the facilities. In Colorado, we have med techs; only assisted living centers and group home have allowed these to become popular. I this this field could also benefit and there are needs for this trade.

The mock studies, in my area, in the facilities would not be of benefit. IMHO. But the need may be greater in your area or in the group home setting where there are less nurses and maybe less supervision. Again, just MO; but surveys have been rather easily passed in LTC unless there were purposeful lazy handling by management and then that population would not care for the extra "insurance and cost" of passing.

Also in my area, there are LPN's who are certified in IV's. You need this certification now(if you are an LPN) in Co to instill meds and maintain and start IV's. This might be an area yo can promote in your neck of the woods. It seems to be a big need as the current school's program is very rigid and there is a waiting list. Perhaps this is something of interest for you.

I think you could utilize this as well in your education endeavors:

• Failure mode and effects analysis and root cause analysis
• Medication error detection and reporting
• High-alert medications and high-risk processes
• Educating patients about medication error prevention
• Computerized prescriber order entry
• Intimidation in the workplace
• Building a culture of safety
• Measuring medication safety
• Preventing errors with look-alike and sound-alike drug names
• JCAHO Medication Management Standards and National Patient Safety Goals

You could set up teleconferences and educate the Healthcare Provider/s using the above topics. Advertise on your website. Many enjoy this method of education/staying ahead of the game through this method. Don't have to leave home, one fee sign up for the entity, save them money by not traveling to seminars, etc.

well nearly a year later and I am giving you an update on where I am.. The CPR school continues to be a success, I have not gotten the CNA school going yet, and I have done some LNC work as well as community education/ training. I was working as a DON in a 120 bed SNF with horrible survey status, (I believe Fla is one of the toughest states for AHCA surveys. Anyways, I managed to fix alot of the issues in this mediocre at best facility which is on a 6 mo survey cycle, and the end result were 4 tags all minor (best survey that facility has had) and it is like 25 yrs old (dunno why I chose this smiley) thought he was cute though

Now I want to change windsails again and do something I have loved so much and did about 10 yrs ago............I never thought I would even consider it, because my health is not great, however, the activity and energy rush required is probably exactly what I need right now.. 40 yr and still dunno what I wanna be when I grow up (LOL)
what is it you say??? I am headed back to the ER (this time as the nurse NOT the patient)
