I'm interested in learning to insert PICCS so I can contract my services in the area...anyone have any suggestions or referrals? Anybody here do this or know someone who does? I had a referral at one point but lost it...dang!

Unfortunately, I have nothing helpful to ad other then encouragment! You go Mattsmom!

I tried to get over to the Specials Dept where I work PRN and learn this skill; it sounds so cool to do. I have watched trained nurses put these in, it doesn't look complicated and of coarse is a precise skill. Much to my surprise, the facility where I worked hired an LPN to train to put these in! I guess they (the facility) is saving a couple of bucks on hiring her instead of me!

Their loss...

Good luck to you Mattsmom.

Thanks Nightngale...guess I can call all the infusion companies and see if they'll talk...LOL!

I hoped one of our Allnurses entrepeneurs might be involved with this sort of thing, but guess not? I'll watch this thread for a few days and see.

Thanks again!

Hey Mattsmom: I currently place PICC's for a Radiology Company (PRN), usually 5-8 days amonth. I get 125.00 per picc (successfull or not) usually these are in a Nursing Home or Rehab hospital, and rarely in a patients home.

My incorporation is in Nevada, I did almost all of it myself, with alittle help from a CPA.

Good luck----BP

R U in Ft. Worth? If so I use to work at Plaza Medical in FTW. We contracted a PICC line service. The RN who owned the company had a couple of employees and more business then she could handle. Let me know if you want more info. I can't remember her co. name off the top of my head but could probably get it for you if your interested and in the area.

I work with a supervisor who inserts PICC lines--DFW area (Arlington). Would you like me to fish around for some info? She has been a nurse around here forever, so I am assuming she picked up the PICC skills around here somewhere.

Yes I am in the Fort Worth area and would LOVE any info you could pass on to me!! Thanks so much! This just sounds like an ideal job for me...I am burned out on traditional patient care/bedside work but THIS I could do!

Very interesting...I had not thought of radiology companies managing this. sounds like you've got a great part time job, which is what I'm looking for too.
Now the first hurdle I have is to get certified...LOL!
