What sort of investment figures do you need to consider
to start up a business like your skin care?

I would love to correspond with someone who has experience in perm makeup in Florida. In Fl it's required that you have a supervising physician. Does anyone has suggestions on how to go about this, and what do they usually require as payment in return?

Re: how to become an aesthetic nurse

i too am starting the journey of nurse esthetician. Current employed in Peds for 24 years, need a change. I am going to a training session in California: Medical Esthetician training of California, anyone heard of this in regard to their reputation, experience etc. Then I am a bit perplexed on the next step, there are 2 medi-spas in my area I would like to just do something per diem to get experience. I would also like to work on the level of a consultant under dermatologist, plastic surgeons. Does anyone have advices as to marketing oneself to these areas as to why should they hire me and get beyond the turf war. I don't need to make a bundle but long term plan would be to make what I am making now in a different, more independant and get out of a hospital setting without taking a nose dive financially.
Any advise would be welcomed. Also are there those in MN or WI that have experience with the BON regulations?

Thanks.

Re: how to become an aesthetic nurse

This thread is just what I was looking for, thanks ...........
I have also been in critical care for 2 years, along with 10 years of nursing experience but am looking for a change.
The old saying, "find your passion and do what you love!" is very true for me in the area. I have however, found it very hard to learn more about this area of nursing. It is a new area, hard for me to research. At this point I am looking for a job with a medispa/plastic surgery office, under the direction of a medical director. I have some questions ......
1. What is the general salary?? I know this is tough to answer...just general.

2. What is "a typical" day like?

3. Do I need to attend a school ...Aesthetic, etc. to practice, or is this more of an "on the job" training?

4. Any websites that may be helpful??

Thanks so much for reading, ANY advice would be very appreciated!!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Re: how to become an aesthetic nurse

I too am heading in this direction. I am a critical care nurse with 13 years experience. I live in TN. I will be attending a 5 day conference in Austin TX to train in Botox, Restylane, microderm, tattoo removal, laser hair removal, etc... I already have a medical director and a salon to work out of. Would like to talk with others that have "made it" in this area!!

It is exciting to see this growth and inclusion of Nurses in Aesthetics. I am additionally proud to see the conversation and sharing of information of this specialty on this Bulletin Board.

Re: how to become an aesthetic nurse

I would love to see this thread continue. Would appreciate any input from the experiences and sucessful nurse estheticians here. I have many questions myself.
One of the many questions I have is, how does it work between the supervising physician and the nurse, mainly financially and as far as malpractice.
I plan to so Independant contracting. I will be paying for my own education. I already have a spa to work out of and a medical director (fortunately the spa owner is a nurse and the wife of the medical director.)
What type of percentages wil I be looking at paying out? What is the best type of marketing? How about a website? Is the Chamber of Commerce beneficial?
After paying out $$$ for the 5 day seminar, my funds will be limited.
I know there a nurses out there who have figured things out. We would love you to share you experience and your mistakes so that we do not repeat them. Teach us!

Re: how to become an aesthetic nurse

Tanya, the only added comment I can make is regarding the Chamber of Commerce. I did join, with my Legal Nursing Business. It is about $300 a year, here in Colorado's small town (approx. 50,000). I get free advertisement, and also to my website. I did get a website. I did hear (again at the Legal Nurse Seminar) that for a business needed to market, that a website is essential' so I guess it depends on how much marketing you do.

The Chamber of Commerce and the small business association (this one is usually free consultation) have been very helpful with small business education. I have learned a lot, and have made many contacts, in my community.

Have you started your business planning?

I hope we hear directly from other Aesthetic Entrepreneurs.
