Healthcare Educators--CPR/ACLS etc. with Medical Directors

All of you out there that have some type of educational business with a medical director. How much do you pay him/her?

I am starting a business offering CPR/ACLS/AMLS and so forth.
Also will be providing respiratory courses for CEU's, like advanced airway and so forth.

I have a physician for a medical director. I was just wondering how much you guys pay. Do you pay a percentage, monthly stipend and so forth.

Thanks for your replies

Hey Bob, I am also interested in starting a similar business. I am curious as to why you would you need a medical director for this type of business?

If I'm not mistaken, physicians need to sign off on the ACLS... so probably for that.

SICU Queen, what do you mean by "sign off". I have never been "signed off" by a physician in an ACLS class. I could be wrong, but I still don't see the need of a physician if you are an ACLS instructor.

If AHA sanctioned ACLS, PALS, etc., a medical director was required to be on the course roster (but, wasn't required to actually attend the course).

Now, if I'm not mistaken, AHA has removed that requirement. But, I am not certain. Will have to research this to be sure.

Yep, I meant what sirI said... "back in the day" when I was a baby nurse, a physician ran our megacode and signed the ACLS cards along with the instructor. Nowadays nurses do it all but I wasn't sure if perhaps there had to be an MD "overseeing" the course. Other than that, I don't know what the need is, either.

Curious to know, though...

When you teach any of the AHA classes - BLS, ACLS - you are required to teach to the standards that they set. Your contact is the person that checked you off on your instructor exam - the person that gives you all the update info on standards, etc. This could be the instructor trainer at your hospital or one of the regional instructor trainers. No need for medical director for this. They have nothing to do with AHA standards. If you don't know who the head honcho for your region is, get online and check it out. I've even taught outside of my region simply by asking my instructor trainer's permission to oversee me even though I was outside of her coverage area.
