Re: CPR Business Anyone????

I was told by ARC that one can't charge for the classes above and beyond the cost of the class (DVD, materials, rentals, etc) to the students. Your employer CAN pay your for your time, but that is the *only* way you can get paid for offering the coures. So, I've been told.

Have you learned something different from ARC?

That's not true. The ARC charges for the certification card ($10) and materials. As an ARC instructor, I am obligated to buy and supply certain materials for certain courses. I am also obligated to show certain portions of the super-expensive ARC dvd. On top of that, I can charge whatever I want, though. I am not an employee of ARC, just certified to instruct ARC courses. Therefore they cannot regulate what I charge/profit.

I'll be vacationing for 3 wk (leave tonight!), and when I get back I'll start teaching courses. I'm starting simple: just my husband's workplace and then a small group of new moms.

Then I'm gonna start teaching at a building in town that offers space for community education.(The place is well-known in the community and the space is free if I don't make a profit.) This will get my name out AND I'll be able to work out any kinks in my instructing skills AND I'll be contributing cheap CPR certification to my community. My plan is to do this once a month for 6-12 months, THEN start my business.

I'll buy my own supplies and provide my own space or travel to clients facilities. If I charge $32/head for an adult and child CPR course, I'll profit about $20/person. Class takes @ 5 hrs, so for an 8-person course I'd make about $160. It's not a big money maker, by any means, but low stress and easy. No night shifts or burnt-out coworkers or unrealistic supervisors or sick people. I'm thrilled to get started! Wish me luck!!!
