Re: Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

Greetings from Los Angeles! I have a heavy interest in home health and board and care homes, otherwise known as RCFE's. I'd like to take my strong interpersonal skills and experience I've gathered as an RN and aim toward a business venture that can relieve me from bedside nursing. Here to network with other nurses who have a similar interest in entrepreneuralship (particularly home health and assisted living, rcfe).

Re: Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

Hello everyone. this is my first time on this forum. I am currently working as an OR director at a large facility. While the pay is good, the stress and demanding hours make me wish for more. I have recently completed my MBA and am thinking about doing some type of supply chain managment consulting on my own. I would have to transition to a less demanding day job in order to have the time and energy to work on my own business. Has anyone done anything similar?

Re: Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

I'm going throw this out and you can tell me what you think. There does't seem to be any incentives to keep the nurses in a hospital after about 3 years. What do they do for the ones that have been there for a long time and are at the top of the pay scale? X-mas dinner??? What about "Giving" them access to a retreat home at the beach or in the mountains, that they could use 3-4 times a year at 2-5 days at a time. I would sell the hospital vacancies or however many employees they wanted to appreciate for that year. Probably the max amount would be 20-30 people/year so the retreat doesn't get too hard to book. For example Hospital A buys 3 spots, Hospital B buys 4 spots, Hospital C buys 5 spots, you could also sell them to Dr.'s offices to say thankyou to your nurses. The whole thing would be about "Retention".
In addition it would also be about "Renewal and Regeneration." Hopefully feel appreciated and prevent burn-out.
Any thoughts?

Re: Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

you mean like they do for fortune 500 companies. Throw in a few meetings and the company can write it off.
"Do this for nurses?" Unfortunately I don't think we are appreciated enough, maybe the more Males that come into the field. Sad but true, I honestly think that is the main reason we have seen any increase in wages. That was a nice dream though!

Re: Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

I wanted to see what everyone is doing, I am frustrated with my JOB and know its time for me to make a move on my own, but I am not sure what to do yet,
I got some info on starting an agency - lots of capital needed for that one
just looking for ideas,
just relocated to a market that I am not familar with and that maybe a good thing.
looks like most are well into their business and seems to be thriving..
I will continue to read the post I am sure to learn something and get inspired..
thanks
M

Re: Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

I really don't think hospitals really care about retention, if you ask me.. I know they know how to keep their nurses but it does not seem to be a high priority. The only time they want to gift anything is nurses week and it will be a trinket.. nurses take up a lot of their budget and since we don't really generate any income for the hospital in the way because we provide a service, and not admit like drs, our needs are an after thought I'm sure..

Re: Calling All Nurse Entrepreneurs!

Hi! I have a BS in ED and a MS in Ed Supervision. I taught seven years and owned my own real estate brokerage for 15 years. I left in 2003 and took a position as Marketing Director for a Low Income Senior Housing Co. I loved working with the seniors. It reminded me of how I had always wanted to be a nurse. I was just downsized and am now unemployed. I just have to figure out how to get from here to there, without having to wait till May of 09 to get into an RN program. I have an entrepreneuerial spirit and don't know what route to go. Any ideas?? HELLPPP!!!!
