Hey all!!
I am looking for my next assignment and I submitted to one so far (two days ago). How do you negotiate pay with your company/hospital. They want to pay me $32 but I think I can get more. My recruiter was VERY hesitant when I brought this up and said "maybe I can get you a dollar more, but you won't get your travel reimbursement" and she quickly changed the subject. Is pay negotiable or not? I am on my first assignment and I did not even try. Why do I feel like my recruiter is telling me a story???

I am in VA in CVICU. My specialty is CVICU/ICU/MICU/SICU. The position I submitted to is a CVICU in Alex. VA.

Good specialty. I'd check out other companies for comparison jobs. Are you willing to travel to other areas of the U.S.? All jobs are negotiable. Especially if you are working with more than one travel agency. I'd pick a few more to get signed up with. I'm not currently working ICU but I've seen some of those assignments going for a lot more. I'm sure someone working in that area can give you more info.

i read in one of the posts that travel nursing agencies make $60 per hour. and you get 32. do the math.

try applying in hospitals. some give 25k in relocation bonuses.

WHOA.....Alexandria, VA, is one of the higher paying contract/travel areas..especially if with an Inova Hospital. Is the 32/hr in addtion to a healthy stipend or a great place to live that is close to the facility?

My agency pays about 1400 per week take home for work in northern and central VA. Day shift, ER or tele even. Your specialty should command top dollar.

Good Luck to you. DO negotiate for a fair rate; housing is extremely expensive in that part of the country...178% of national norm for cost of living.

Hi all!
Actually, I will be getting paid 35 dollars (after negotiation) an hour (at Inova) with free private housing (apt. looks nice on the website). I also get insurance and too. The only thing I have to pay is internet/cable/phone if I want a land line.Did I just get jipped? I really did not want to go through the hassle of finding another company since I really am satisfied with this one so far....Before I found this one I tried On Assignment and the recruiter left me in the wind!! So I found this one. On assignment still has my application on file though, so maybe I will keep my options open with them. How do you all do it? Do you go to two companies and see which one offers more money for a particular assignment? I heard it is not good to be submitted by two companies though, so how does this work with more than one company to work for without getting "caught up" and being submitted?

Negotiate salary with a couple different companies before they submit...and before you interview.

Sounds like you got a good deal. I make sure to get all the info on wage, housing, etc. before I will let a recruiter even submit me for a job. That way, I can compare offers and decide who I want to submit me.
