My First Assignment starts in less than 3 Weeks!

My first travel assignment starts in less than 3 weeks! Is it normal to have jitters about moving and working in a hospital that is really sort of unknown to you? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

If your not nervous then you are not paying attention! Walking into a hospital as a traveler, you do not know how you will be received by other staff. Some are delighted to see you because you will bring new stories and expriences to the hospital, but other are narrow-minded may not accept you right away. You may have to "prove" yourself. Some hospitals advertise "No agency Nurses" which means they would rather work their own staff to death than have new blood.

I can honestly say, I have met some of the best friends of my life as a traveler. After I left the assignment, we still fly across the country to visit each other. So, make friends, call a "Margerita night" out, and see who is a fun person to hang with.

Good luck and God Bless. May you have a wonderful adventure. Don't get too caught up in the job, you will only be there 13 weeks. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Kenesha,

Even experienced travelers never know exactly what they're going to meet up with when they travel to new location, so I would say that a little anxiety is normal. You have to go into it with a positive attitude and an open mind and just do your thing. If the people are nasty and the assignment sucks, the good thing about it is that you're only going to be there for 13 weeks. Before you know it the time flies right by, and you'll be moving on to the next gig. The important thing is to always be professional and to leave a good reputation behind because you'll need good references for your next assignment.
