Re: telephone triage

Try www.kaiserpermanente.org, www.unitedhealthgroup.com, or www.mckesson.com. These are compaines that hire telephone triage nurses.

Re: telephone triage

In your town or city you can try a Doctor's Office, if it's a large office setting, Most will post positions as Busy Medical office seeking RN or LPN, more likely it will be for Telephone Triage.

Please bear in mind that any of these companies will expect a level of experience - often 3+ years, your communication skills will need to be excellent, and being a different sort of work, the main areas where you would have got job satisfaction before (ie direct patient contact) will not give you the same job satisfaction.

Re: telephone triage

Phone Triage is the new upcoming job for Nurses, it has always been there but now they have new positions opening, the new one out there is TeleNurse etc. I have a difficult time finding information on protocols etc, I found some new information in the magazine Nursing2008. If you go on line and google you may find more info on this.

Re: telephone triage

There are some books available with protocols etc. Different jobs use different software.

As for tips - this forum is a pretty good place! My biggest tip is, when in a telephone triage position assume NOTHING. Your patient may not have the skills or knowledge to be able to answer your questions effectively, so assume nothing and clarify everything, reflecting back to them your understanding of their responses. Document everything and finally assume nothing.

Someone once told me to assume makes an ass of u and me and whilst quite crude, it is a good axiom to live by.
