Are you mistaken for a jet setting flight attendant?
|
|
I can not even get half of my school books in my back pack. I am thinking I will stop at Costco after school and get one of those bags with wheels. I always though those people looked kinda dorky...this is school not the terminal! Looks like I will have to buy a one way ticket to dorksville!
Any one else use the bags with wheels? If not, now do you get all your books around?

HAHAHA! You crack me up. I haven't bought a backpack yet. I'm waiting 'til after the first week to see if I absolutely, positively, have to have a rolling one.

Hi, Dorksville really isn't a bad place, especially when it saves your back!
I have one on wheels after trying a regular pack for just two classes worth of books. Now I take it even for one because I can put everything I need in it.

Nah...a milk crate on a luggage carrier would be dorksville, although it WILL hold more stuff
A rolling laptop bag/briefcase will look sleek and sophisticated (right ) but probably won't hold all your books.

I went through several "shoulder" bags...none ever seemed to be right - not big enough, too big, too deep and not enough compartments, and one bag was so heavy by itself - there was no need to add to the required weight caused by all the books. My shoulders were always aching and my posture was horrible, which necessitated switching shoulders regularly. However, I could have killed someone slinging it over my shoulder. The shoulder bags and/or backpacks may seem more desirable...and I spent a small fortune trying to find the right one. If I had to do it all over again...I'd go with the wheels. Also, will you be carrying a laptop...they add a tremendous amount of weight. I never carried a laptop but if that had been added to the books I don't think the shoulder bags would have been possible at all.
I saw in your post that you start school in 9+ hours!!! Good luck...that is so exciting...hope it all goes well...Congratulations!!!

I love my LL Bean rolling backpack. I can fit tons of things into it, it's durable, and my back is saved. They are kind of expensive, but I found mine at an outlet and saved quite a bit. An added bonus: LL Bean warranties their products for life. They either fix or exchange the backpack. Just a thought.

Gee... thanks. On the upside, soon you'll be so loaded down with stress... assignments, care plans, skills lab, clinicals, exams, papers to write, group projects, NCLEX prep... that your little rolling backpack, and what 50 unimportant strangers think about you pulling one, will be the very least of your concerns.

Based on what I remember of nursing school years ago, this is right on the mark. Energy conservation at that point becomes a major priority too - so much so that your rolling backpack may just become one of your most cherished friends (It certainly saves your back/shoulder/neck for more important work.). LOL.

I have always hated rolling backpacks so much, but I broke down and bought one for NS. I am such a weenie w/ my back anyway though. I ended up getting a Jansport one at my bookstore, so I could charge it against my loans and grants. It was $56, but online the cheapest one I found like it was $55, most were $70, so that's not too bad.

That would depend on the laptop, mine is just 4lbs. I carry 2 classes worth of books and my laptop in my very large backpack. It's got great padded shoulder straps, a sternum strap and a waste strap. So, even when it's loaded down, it's not that bad.
I'm also working on getting my A&P textbook electronically. My laptop is also a tablet(ie I can write on it), so I can annotate and highlight the electronic version of the textbook the same way I could the real version(as well as do word searches on it). Also, since I can write and draw on my laptop, I use it as my notebook for all my classes. I guess I just figure that between less textbooks and no notebooks, I save some weight on my poor back.
Peace,
Cathie
