Hi everyone..... I'm starting my first pre-req in August (anatomy) and I'm thinking of buying a desk to put in our basement bedroom. (we just finished our basement so it's done and cozy)
I figure if nothing else I can put the kids to bed early (my husband will be traveling M-Th) and head downstairs to study in a quiet room without any distractions (tv, computer, etc)
I found a desk at IKEA that I liked and is very cheap.... $49.00... just a table sort of thing... but I really like the idea of having my "own space".... (we have an office but I wouldn't get any privacy there)... ok, I'm rambling now...
Anyway... do you have a sacred place or do you go to the library, or do you just study at the kitchen table?
With my 3 kids, I really need a hide-a-way... Any ideas???

I use the office. I have a TV in there an usually tune into the music channels. I can't have complete silence when I study for some reason. My teenaged daughters room adjoins the office though and sometime their music gets a little out of hand(rap doesn't help me get my study groove on) and I do have to beat on the wall from time to time but I like to study in there.

I have my own computer room. It is completely set up only for my nursing stuff and all my books etc. I have one large computer table with a hutch for my computer and printer and a desk beside it so I can swivel to it and work and then I found that I needed a ton more desk top surface for my texts as I need several texts open as I am researching so I ended up using my closed sewing table, and then I have a small and large bookshelf that will probably be overstuffed once I order my second year nursing texts. I have a large wipe board that really helped me organize my first year. On that I put the entire month's classes with the days of the week and what is due and when etc. Then I simply erase that month and make up a new month. If I didn't have that I would be lost. It was a great investment. I have two corkboard bulletin boards that I stick with this and that...and my hutch on my computer desk is covered with post it notes of various things I need to recall. I also have a hanging file thing that I put on top of my desk that holds all my research papers, anything that is marked, anything that is pending etc. Great buy that was too.

Most days, it looks like a cyclone hit my room but I know exactly where everything is and I get a lot done in there. I like the fact that I don't have to put anything away when I am done.

I have 5.
1. My car. . . In the carpool lane, waiting at doctors office,after dropped kids off at school i went straight to school and sat in the parking lot
2. Denny's- Yes Denny's! They served me free cokes and coffee because they knew I was a poor nursing student. Plus I even wrote them a Thank You card at graduation!!!! YES IM A NERD!!!!
3. My carport- my lawn chair and table. I get up before the kids and studied or after they went to bed.
4. Pack up the kids and went to the park. They play I study. or just back yard.
5. my friends and family- They for some reason feel sorry for nursing students. Huh? I HAVE NO IDEA WHY? ! LOL

My step-daughter is hardly ever at our house anymore. She just got her first car and job. So I took my computer desk to her room. She has a built in desk-like thing in her room. I still have a little work to do in there but it will be ready before school starts. I will be surrounded by all of her stuff but that is okay because she doesn't really have too much in there. All of the stuff that she does have here is on the floor. My 3 year old has started to watch his movies in his sister's room because I cannot stand to watch Barney anymore. I guess I will have to get him a small TV for his room or maybe I will just move this one into his room. Like I said I have a lot of work to do to this room. And yes I talked to her about it before I started making changes, you all know how teenagers can be.

Well, during my pre-reqs I would use my dad's office when he had his own building but he sold it. Now I think when it's available I'll use my sister's office. She's a professor at another university in town and it's super quiet there. I wrote all of my papers there this past semester.

I'm still living at home with my parents and they're great and I'm so lucky to have them support me financially during school but I also live with my 16-year-old brother, who I don't exactly get all with for obvious reasons. He loves playing loud music and being obnoxious, so studying in my room or anywhere at home is usually not at all productive.

I have a 3rd bedroom with a nice desk and my computer in it.

I used to be a kitchen table studier when I lived alone back in ADN school. Now I use the computer so much in my studies, I need to have the computer nearby. When I lived with my parents I would go to the library to study.

For years, for me, when I lived alone in apartments is was the floor of the living room. I would lie down prone with my books all around me, prop myself up on my elbows and read or write. I used to lie prone on my bed and put books on the floor; I would hang my head over the side of the bed and read that way. It all probably contributed to my current back problems in some way.

For now, I pretty much have the same kind of set up at the computer. I have three tables that form a U-shape around me. Computer on one, writing area and books piled on another. I can never seem to get my books organized, so they usually just sit in piles. Instead of a chair, I have a very comfortable bench I had made years ago. I can also put my feet up which I'm supposed to be doing anyway since I have circulation problems in my one leg. I also have a mess of plastic storage containers under these tables that have more books and office supplies. Of course the cats all love this because they can sit on top of the table or in between boxes on the floor.

I studied all over during pre-reqs. Now I'm trying to clear out more of my bedroom to make an area for studying. (I'm back living with my parents in their small 2 bedroom condo.) You know, when I went off to college the first time, my dorm rooms were smaller than my room at home and I had lots of room to study. Figure that out.
I'm thinking about other places to study. I know already that I won't be able to study at my university's library. It's way too cold. But I could study either at my local public library or the community college library where I work at. I'm also looking for a local coffee shop or other food shop to study.

I start NS in the fall, but during pre-reqs I studied at my computer desk, which never worked out because 1. computer is distracting 2. the tv is also in the room and 3. it's very uncomfortable.
I'd say about 90% of the time I did my studying at the library. I would pack a lunch and check out a key to one of the study rooms (3 hours, but they always let me renew it). I feel like I learned so much in those study rooms!! It was completely distraction free. Also, sometimes people can be really loud/annoying at the library (go figure), so the room was a perfect option for me.
I miss it now that I have nothing to study
